There are always decent properties around, as long as you are prepared to spend enough.
I didn't say that there were no decent properties around. Just not many in the price range I'm interested in in the areas I'm interested in.

I've been looking on rightmove for a few months now. Things were quiet before Christmas and I thought I'd wait for the new year to see if more properties turned up.

I'd have to say that January has been pretty quiet.

I'm thinking now that maybe it'll be spring before more properties are put on the market. Maybe the election?

I certainly feel that it will be worth waiting. There's a distinct lack of choice in certain areas.

Just wondering what other people think.

We moved to our new house at the beginning of December (A fast, impulse purchase :) ). Both our solicitor and most of the EA's we consulted advised us to wait until mid-feb before putting our old house on the market. So presumably many others have been given the same advise? I did wonder whether I should pip the others at the post and go on the market early but I suspect most buyers will think like you - wait and see what comes along later.

(Interestingly, I was over at the old house getting it ready for having photos taken and my old neighbour popped in to see what we wanted for the house - he's got a friend that's interested. I told him that we were going with an EA and that it wasn't yet on the market - he was quite keen for us to give him advanced warning the moment things were ready to move!)

That was the case for us last year.

However, lots around where I live (Midlands) on the market now that I like the look of - about 20 going on Rightmove every day where it was just the odd 1 or 2 before Christmas.

Cant wait to get moving, we haven't had any viewings yet and I'm thinking of dropping our price.

Do you want to move to the Midlands ?????!!!!!!!!

  • Could one reason be that folk are waiting to see what happens in the Budget and/or General Election?

I should imagine that some people are hanging fire in hopes of better things to come via Government?

    Cheers, HG

No matter what budget one has, there's always something "perfect" a few quid more .... and if you got that few quid more you'd not like that house any more, but would be hankering after the next one ... :)

I'd expect to spend 12-18 months trying to find a house when I start looking.

    Overhead this week:

Estate agent on his mobile (well he looked like an EA :) )

"That house has been on the market too long, I need the front picture airbrushed to add some snow."

My Mum sold her house in July (after 10 days on market) but it took until just before Christmas to complete, partly down to the fact she couldn't find anything and when she did there were issues with them - chap decided he didn't want to sell afterall, mine shaft in garden next door, right next to a substation etc. She is still looking and now living with us and her furniture in storage.

It seems around here (Newcastle upon Tyne) that anything decent in the 'mid range' is selling quickly, there are still a good few for sale but most of those have been on ages. A few new properties but nothing much. I'm about to put my house up for sale - everyone keeps telling me it will sell quickly - I hope so! Just got to finish off 'putting it right' after the tenant from hell has just moved out :( It's costing us a fortune but I'm hoping it will be worth it to get it 'showhome' looking!?! We want to buy once we've sold the place but I'm not even going to start looking properly until I see how many viewings/get interest in ours - funnily enough we want the same kind of house as my Mum in the same area lol - and price range - think we'll be fighting over the same 'new' places lol!

I got one in Brighton, if you want it. 2 bed end of terrace, garage, nice little garden, conservatory. Yours for £224,950!
  • Hi,

We just looked at 4 properties before we offered for the one we are purchasing, the other 3 were empty and in my opinion overpriced needing lots of work! The one we are buying was on for 3 days before we looked ( we were the first viewers ) we hadnt even sorted a motgage But I really loved it, did the mortage that week 2nd viewing a week after the first, and then we offered.

They dropped price and I think its because they had seen a property they really wanted but the EAs would not consider an offer from them till they had an offer on theirs. So its worked well for us both.

I have not seen anything as comparable on rightmove and have still been looking! Nothing new has popped up!
