why do estate agents park on the drive?

As opposed to letting the potential buyers do so?

Is there a real reason - I have just had to cross a busy main road in the rain to look at a house, because the estate agent has parked in the drive - which always seems to be the case where I live.

I would have thought that the potential buyer should park in the drive to get that first impression of what it would be like to live there...

(sorry - got very wet and fed up!!)

  • First come first served! Why should the EA have to park on the road??
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

Possible better chance of making a sale if they let potential buyers park in the driveway?

To make you appreciate the off road parking space more?
  • I leave the drive free and would expect the viewers to do the same so they can see how much space there is. If the road was that busy would you want to live on it? Where would your friends and family park if they wanted to visit you?

Normally it's inconsiderate viewers that turn up late making the EA late for the rest of their appointments throughout the day. The drive is empty.....why shouldn't they park on it????

Because they are obviously lousy at their job, ie selling (not saying all EAs are, but those that park on the drive clearly are). Great way to point out parking problems to potential buyers!
  • As a viewer I wouldnt park on the drive of the house I'm about to view.

However, the agent doing so confirms that the drive is big enough, and also agents normally have 'aspirational' cars that a gives the viewer images they might wish to aspire to, ie "nice house, nice car I'll have that please"

    Just my 2p worth.

Not a good estate agent if they cannot factor in some delays, thereby making all subsequent appointments late.
