Walked into see Dr and he was so nice, said that he was glad I was back as I have *dum dum dum dum* Hypothyroidism (and a kidney infection to boot, lol) so there is a good reason I have been feel so tired, crap, cold, and FAT! Have started on new drugs as of today and been signed off work for 2 weeks. Still seeing other Dr next week but the bleeding is all linked in with this thyroid problem. I have to say, I sat in the car and cried after because at least I know WHY I have been feeling so bloody low.
Thanks everyone for your kind words as well, it means the world to me xxx
Aww that's rubbish Bun but at least you know what it is now and have got something to help it. One of my mates was put on thyroxine last year (very similar symptoms to you) and it started to work really quickly - only thing is she is always moaning about being too warm now!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
It's a huge relief just to know isn't it bunny, I cried after my diagnosis too, I thought I was going mad, at school I couldn't understand why everyone else was fine and I was absolutely freezing cold!
I could identify with every one of these symptoms:
Symptoms of hypothyroidism tend to come on slowly, and you may not notice them for several years.
Possible early symptoms
being sensitive to cold,
constipation,
depression,
tiredness,
slowness in body and mind,
muscle aches and weakness,
muscle cramps,
dry and scaly skin,
brittle hair and nails,
heavy or irregular periods, and
weight gain.
It all fitted together so obviously once I got my blood results :T
I wouldn't have even considered it until one day the anaesthetist at the dental clinic where I worked said "I think you've got a goitre, you should have your thyroid checked!"

Thanks Linda-had blood test on WEd but going back to the Dr on Tues for more 'talks'.
The mood swings???? Well, DH can say that I suffer from those-I have been a cow bag lately, unreasonable really. Flying off the handle etc. I can pin point when this started to go really bad, was this time last year, started having issues with my skin, which I never have before! Went sooooo dry. Have always had higher cholesterol so will keep an eye on that.

Myxoedema is the posh term for hypothyroidism!

When you go back to the docs you will probably be given the form to send off for your medical exemption card (free scripts) ask if your GP doen't automatically sign and give you the form.
