Can anyone advise on a similar query -
My mum has the basic sky package, but wants to stop the monthly comitment & go freeview, the £20 card was looking ideal before the "not true" comment, what do you mean?
She would also like to have Freeview+, as she has seen our Sky+ & likes it. She's gettin quotes of £400 -450 for the box & fitting. That seems a lot to me, any ideas??
Thanks
As Will has pointed out Freeview is via a TV Aerial, FreesatfromSky is via your existing system. Freesat is another satellite system, all very confusing I know.
The channel line up is different on all 3 of them, hence my comments of " not true ".0 -
This is not necessarily true. It applies for a certain period, but after that period which i think is 6 months, certain channels may no longer be availalbe. Namely the ITV's, Channel 4 channels and various others. The BBC ones all stay. It's not got a strict 6 month cut off and sometimes co-incides with updates, card replacements etc.
News to me, your source for that information is ??????

That’s not correct if you take out the card of the main channels you will only lose Fiver and Five USA you might lose Five or/and and your local ITV station but I believe there are ways around that. You will lose all of the sky channels except sky news.
I have taken my card out and have London ITV instead of Meridian I still get Five ITV2,3,4 and all the channel 4 channels plus a load of Rubbish.0 -

Again, not correct. Without being rude, you should do your research before posting.
Sky viewing cards have been changed only twice since digital satellite was introduced in the UK: the latest change has just taken place. The latest (white) cards, be they from Sky, FSFS or any other pay tv provider, will continue to decrypt the free to view (FTV) channels until SSSL replace these cards. NDS, the type of encryption used, has never been hacked. Sky are very much ahead of the game.
BBC and Channel 4 are free to air (FTA) ie broadcasts are not encrypted. The same is true of ITV1, with the exception of a handful of micro regions. FIVE is both FTV and FTA.
The viewing card regionalises channels 101-105 on the epg, so that you get the correct local news services. This is determined by the postcode attributed to the card.RIP independent MSE.

Do 2 seperate people watch the two seperate tv's at the same time?
If no, then you can get one of those signal transfer things that send the signal from the HDsky box to the second telly (you don't need the second sky box at all). But as this only works off the one sky box both tellys will show the same channel at the same time.
However the signal sent will not be HD, it will downscale to SD on the second TV so is not really the answer to his problem.0 -
