  • how many variety packs?
    what broadband you looking for?
so was that a sales pitch or do you really think if you order just sky sports 1 you don't get sky sports HD 1?! doesn't sound right.

    Sky TV
    Variety Pack
    £18.00

    Sky Sports 1
    £9.00

    Sky HD Pack
    £10.00

    Sky Talk Line Rental
    £11.00

Base Up to 2Mb 2Gb Free
    Broadband Everyday Up to 10Mb 10Gb £5.00
Sky Broadband Unlimited Up to 20Mb Unlimited £10.00

This would be min £48 a month, however £30 to install HD & £39 phone connection. Free HD box if you qualify on digital switchover.

No it is correct, if you go on sky's website and build a package - click help me choose on sports you will see only the sports pack gives you the HD sports channels, I have also asked numerous advisers the question and they have all said sky sports hd1 is NOT available with sky sports 1. Also I didn't know there was a phone connection charge, where is the info on this and would it be better to stay on a BT line?

So the true cost at the moment is:

    £18.00 Variety Pack
    £10.00 HD Pack
    £18.00 Sports Pack
    £10.00 Unlimited Broadband
    £11.00 Line Rental
    £FREE Eve.&Weekends calls
    TOTAL: £67.00 A MONTH.
Plus one off costs of: £30.00
  • Sorry I never noticed you need Sports pack to get HD, very cheeky!

Once you build your package the next page will ask for your landline number, if you don't have one then it'll say
"Get a new landline from Sky for great value line rental and calls, plus all your Sky services will be included in one hassle-free monthly bill. One off Line Rental set up = Now £39
(Will be added to your basket) "

Well as I have an active BT line they said it would be a free transfer onto sky line rental, however the package still comes to be £67.00 which seems extremely high. I think I'll have to go for Sports 1 as a non hd channel which will make it £58.00.

but at the moment may sound a bit silly...

You - have an HD TV so are thinking of getting Sky HD to make use of this. Makes sense or "fair play" as some would say.

Me - I have ordered Sky HD... but I don't have an HD tv!

My thinking was to maybe get one in time for the world cup, and I'd rather have a Free HD Box than another Sky+ box, I realise I will paying extra £10 per month but have £75 cashback (hopefully coming - as well as the £50 M&S vouchers) so I'm trying to justify it, and of course force myself into replacing TV or at least putting HD upstairs. At the moment previous flatmate had Sky+ so there is cables downstairs to dish, perhaps I should get installation team to install 2 more cables to upstairs, then I can use spare Sky boxes to get feed... (if you follow?) perhaps eventually get new TV with Freesat too, thus getting some free HD channels even if i cancel Sky HD after 12 months.... hmmmm...

I beg to differ I only have SS1 and can watch it in HD, Where have you seen this on the website as I can't see it? The HD sub entitles you to all the non premium channels plus whatever premium channels you are subscribed to.

Well either way I have just bought sky hd, decided to go for the Quidco £75.00 cashback (£70.00 really) and am getting £50 m&S vouchers from sky plus 6 months free brdband. So I've worked out that I'm only really paying £10.00 installation and box and £10.00 in the year for broadband thanks to all my savings.

If you go on the origin-packages.sky. com website and go down to sports click the help me choose button and you will see that it has an x in the hd column when choosing sky sports 1. If this is wrong I will be chuffed as I decided to buy just sports 1.

I personally would advise getting yourself an HDTV as otherwise your £10 a month is going to waste until you buy one. If you really wanted to just watch the world cup you maybe should have gone for one of the new HDTV's with Freesat HD inbuilt, makes things much simpler. My HDTV is around 2 years old now (still has all the features of todays tv's 1080p and the rest of it...) We were getting a fair bit of use out of it as my son uses his ps3 in hd and it also has bbc iplayer and we could watch hd movies - I just thought that it was time to use hd on our everday tv by going for skyhd. Especially with the new season of 24, champions league and as you say world cup coming up.

Also: anyone know how long it takes for my cashback to track on quidco?

Yeah this is true, I was reading the welcome pack contract last night & it says "if you take Sky Sports 1 only you'll get Sky Sports HD1 and if you take Sky Sports 2 only you'll get Sky Sports HD2"

As well as saying "if you have the standard definition channel in your sky digital package, you will receive the high definition version of that channel available in HD pack"

not sure about the quidco tracking, i put mine through topcashback, will be a while before it comes through i'm sure but it has "tracked" it.

ps the reason i don't have an HD TV yet is that i'll take forever to decide on one! i only decided to get HD rather than Sky+ again recently after thinking about the stuff i mentioned above, prior to that i hadn't really thought about replacing the massive box tv in the living room or wee portable upstairs. just wanted to record progs again & love remote record.

Can I use my account to watch programmes on sky player yet as I have not had the box installed or received the welcome pack, its just as i want to watch the manchester derby and its not on itv i dont think.

I was thinking about going through topcashback but I heard quidco were faster at paying and they were offering more cashback too. It tracked in about 1 hour.

As for HDTV's I'd personally recommend Sony as a brand. We have a Bravia W series and sony's technology proves to be extremely future proof and the build quality is very good.
