I think we might have the basis for a great new game show here, Aldi Supermarket Sweep with extra £££ if you get your trolley in more than 5 wrong positions! (I think I've done that!!) Sorry guys, I 'm knackered and may be approaching hysteria, do you think we could get DALE, this could be the answer to all our money problems, think of the networking the fees from China, right I confess, completely bonkers...

Hi and welcome to the group :)

I've had a look through your SOA and it doesnt really make sense, do you share a house? Seems like your TV, food etc are quite low.
I have read your posts and agree that you seek advice from CCCS, however, I think you need to really think how debt free you want to be. I was in a similar position as you in that my two loans were due to be paid off this year, and I was on 0% for a lot of the other debts. The crunch was that although these debts would soon be gone, the lack of money in the meantime meant my overall debt would have gone sky high as I couldnt afford to keep making the minimum payments and live (I have two kids and couldnt risk loosing everything). In my opinion its better to spread your debt over a longer period than struggle on in the short term.
As far as your car is concerned, Im not too sure on how best to deal with that. If I were you I would seriously consider the possibilty of getting rid. If you are thinking of working extra, why not put that money to a cheaper car that will see you through the hard times to come, but wont stop you from dealing with your debts?
I would agree with fellow posters that taking out debt to clear debt is the worst thing you can do. Its a vicous circle and trust me you just end up in a worst place. 25K is a lot of debt to brush under the carpet. Yes the banks may stop interest charges and accept a lower payment, but you have to realise that this will probaby still go on your credit file just the same as a DMP because you are breaking their terms and defaulting on the debt. Taking out the loan over 7 years will only just end up adding unnecessary interest to it.
I hope that has given you plenty to think about, any questions just fire away, we're all in similar postions.

Hi, sorry i should have said I live with my boyfriend and we jointly own the house so Ive halved the outgoings that we share.

At the moment I can afford the minimum payments and have £100 left over for just me to spend. Ive got myself into this situation so I think it will be a good life lesson to live on £25 a week! To be fair there is nothing I need and I dont have any children.

I would love to be able to get rid of my car but I commute 50 miles a day and the public transport is rubbish, takes 2 hours to get 25 miles! I car share when I can but there isnt anyone locally that I can car share with regularly.

I dont want to take out anymore credit as I agree that will make things worse. I would like to extend the length of time left to pay my loan to make the monthly payments a bit less.

I have cut up all my credit cards so I cant spend on them anymore, only pay them off. My boyfriend helps me when he can but I dont really want him to as its my mess. If the interest rates were a bit lower on my credit cards I'd be in a much better position. My virgin card has the most on and is 15.9%. They have reduced this for me in the past when I just asked over the phone to 9% so it cant hurt to ask again.

Thankyou for your advice! Ive got lots to think about but already feel better that I am doing something about it and not pretending it isnt happening!

    Thanks again

Hi misscdc, I've done the consolidation then re spend on the CCs many times so you're not alone in your embarrassment...I'm on my own in this too so this thread is keeping me sane. Sorry to hear your boyfriend walked, not what you needed. Glad your creditors have gone quiet though! :)

    thanks so much tedsd :)
i hope we can all support each other !
think it may be the calm before the storm though, as the only payments any of my lenders got in january were from the cccs :( watch this space !

    Morning All

These stories about Aldi are hilarious :rotfl: I've never been to one before, but am tempted to go just to see if the trolley situation is as crazy as it sounds! Lol!

Still fairly quiet, and still waiting to get new bank details from NatWest - anyone else take over a week to confirm? I sent back the signed agreement form last Monday (25th). Think I'll give them a call at lunchtime and check all is ok (I'm worried it's not  )

Also, got the MSE newsletter this morning and noticed a piece about bank charges claims coming back, if you're in hardship (which I'm sure most of us must be) - anyone looked into this?

I'm waiting on Capital One to come back on PPI charges but they've gone very quiet. Hmmmmmm

  • morning, it is very quiet, nothing from creditors this week at all so far, does that mean they are accepting or does that mean they are just ignoring us and whacking on charges? Go on visit an Aldi to-day, think of the entertainment value for free and the groceries are fine, you just have to compare what you buy normally. Getting the best value is like a full time job!!!

Oh dear what have I started, we've all gone Aldi mad:rotfl:I think the best challenge is to fill your trolley with everything you would normally buy (regardless of how bizzare their make looks), cut your weekend shop by a third and then see if you can get the trolley in and re-pack it before they through you out of the shop for time wasting!!! Honestly how quick do they think you can put the stuff back in your trolley. One tip, dont even think about trying to put it in bags, nooooo chance. Wait till you've paid and go to the bench! I must say we've changed a few Tesco brands and top brand names for Aldi stuff and you cant notice the diff, and in some cases they are much nicer. I agree their choccy bics are scrumyumptious!! Just an example for those who havent been - Tesco 4 pint milk £1.59 Aldi £1.09 Saving 50p or if you happen to have an Iceland, its only £1!!! Time to get frugal everyone :)

Word to the wise, if you venture to Lidl expect to find things you've never heard of (very strange brands indeed). At least Aldi seems a little bit english!

How about this as a challenge for this month - Whats the biggest saving you can make on one item and still be edible/nice to use? Whether its Aldi, supermarket value or poundland. Who ever makes the best saving gets a free !!

Morning VicB, yes, get yourself over to Aldi and don't forget to use a trolley..!

... must say i admire the way you will phone people, says me who opens letters at arms length starting very slowly at the top right hand part of the envelope and taking deep breaths til it's open, then spend a while unfolding the actual letter... come to think of it, I was like that as a kid with plasters, took ages peeling them off rather then just whizzing em off in one quick painful pull... do you think there may be a psychological link there or am I simply a wimp?!:D

Thanks tedsd, must say I don't feel brave. Heart is beating so fast I think it's going to jump out my chest or I feel stick! A trick I learnt from my best friend was always think 'worse case senario' so with NatWest I think, worse case they'll say 'no sorry we can't give you an a/c'. I'll accept it and apply to someone else. No use dwelling on it - which I know is easier said than done ;)

The waiting for the post kills me

  • Looked at my Halifax account and it states 'arrears' upon logging in, but then states a next payment is due on 01st March, i would have thought that this should be due in February, on my DMP notification they have received i stated DMP starting in March.

Do you think this is an indication of acceptance?
