I Have been on vodafone for years and years have been insured and sucessfully claimed via Vodafone total cover @ £5.99pm, Today ordered an iphone and was told insurance for iphone is only available via apple @ £12.99 pm ????

Yep, IPhones are high value and high risk. Most mobile insurances exclude the IPhonr/charge a premium for it. Several insurers will do IPhones but its about £10-15 a month.

  • I emailed 02 and got this back...

    Hello **** *******

Thanks for your email about O2 insurance. I'm sorry you've been given
different information about O2 insure and I can see how confusing this
    may be.

I called you about this today at 19:20. Unfortunately you weren't
    available to take my call.

I've personally checked your account and I can see that our
Premier insurance at a cost of £10 per month was added to your account
on 09 January 2010. This insurance is valid as it was added with 28 days
of purchasing your phone from CarphoneWarehouse.

Our O2 Insure policies provide complete peace of mind covering your
mobile against loss, theft and accidental damage. Once insurance has
been added to your account, the policy will continue until you or we end
    it.

Insurance is limited to one mobile per policy. Should you wish to insure
more than one mobile, a separate policy will need to be purchased for
each extra mobile you wish to be covered.

There is an excess charge of £25 in all cases except where a fault is
the result of a manufacturing defect that arises within the 12 month
    warranty period.

    etc etc..

I would query 02 about the fact you brought it from CarphoneWarehouse as they stated in the email response, but have in the terms of the insurance stating it must be purchased directly from 02.

If they can clarify that, it should put you at ease. And then if the insurance doesn't pay for an claim you can refer them to 02s emails.

  • I've just replied to the email saying about the T&C's I'll let you know when they get back to me

It's all a bit up in the air IMO. Should be stated more clearly..
  • I emailed them back quoting the insurance T&C's and again they've assured me I am covered. So surely after speaking to 2 people and then emailing 2 people aswell I must be getting the righ answer. I'm just wondering if I did come to claim and for some reason I wasn't insured surely this would count as 02 miselling me insurance and surely I would have a leg to stand on if I keep the emails?

I can't believe so many staff are telling you you're covered. I can tell you now, you are most certainly not covered.

Go with my other advice, ring the insurance company. It is there policy after all - 0870 333 1685

You could probably sue 02 for selling insurance that is not suitable, leaving you with a financial loss as the insurer did not pay out because of terms 02 assured you they would.

I'm with RBS and they only do it with a royalties account which I do not have.

RBS packaged accounts do not cover smartphones/iPhones at the moment. Only Natwest's Advantage Gold (Royalties Gold equivalent) account does.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p
  • I can't believe this, if what you're saying is true it's terrible what they're doing...I will contact the insurer directly tomorrow I will let you know what happens
