iPhone 3G insurance....

Hi all new here and this is my first post!

So, heres the deal...

On boxing day I bought myself an iPhone 3G on an 18 month contract from Carphone Warehouse on the 02 network.

They offered me insurance there and then but I declined and told them I was going to shop around first to which they said if I don't find any then return withing 28 days and they will add it to my account.

When shopping around I found 02 premier iPhone insurance for £10 a month with a £25 excess which looked like it covered pretty much everything so I liked the look of that and submitted an application form online. 02 got back to me via email a couple of days later approving and told me it would be added to my account and appear on my next bill.

However, I went into CPW a couple of days ago complaining about a fault on my iPhone (vertical lines on screen sometimes when iPhone is locked) and he told me he can send it off for me next week because it's still under warranty and he asked did I have insurance and I told him yes I've gone with 02. He then told me that 02 will not cover me because I bought the phone from CPW and not directly from 02 so I should cancel the insurance....which I thought was a bit weird because CPW are only really a middle man and the contract is with 02 and they've accepted me for the insurance.

So I rang up 02 telling them that I've had insurance added to my monthly bill but have since been told that I am NOT covered because I bought my 02 contract from CPW and 02 have told me that's wrong and I AM covered.

I'm just a bit confused by it all and I even rang back a day later and spoke to someone else at 02 who also confirmed that I am indeed covered and I made it perfectly clear that I bought the phone from CPW but 02 told me this didn't matter aslong as I've added the insurance before I've had the phone 28 days.

Anyone shed any light?

Thanks alot and sorry about the short essay haha, Sam.

As far as I was aware, the CPW were correct in saying that it wouldn't be valid. I thought that to get o2 insurance, you had to have got the o2 phone from o2 themselves.

I would call back to o2 and ask someone else, the insurance may be on the account but that doesn't mean it would be valid. I'd ask them to check if it's actually valid, not that it's just on the account.
  • I Have been told by two people from o2 that I am covered and my insurance is valid. I have been doing alot of Reading up online and it seems that cpw have a history of misleading people when it comes to insurance. I have also read of others turning down cpw insurance and gettin o2s instead.
  • Anyone else got anything on this?
  • Nobody then

Call them again as your insurance is not valid. o2 insurance only covers handsets direct from o2. When you call, the agent will just look on your account and see you have insurance added. When you try to make a claim, it's third party insurance that o2 have who will decline your claim due to not buying the phone direct. Call and ask to speak to insurance to double check. If having further problems, write to complaints review service which is on your bill or online..
  • £10 a month?? are you serious?? Jeeeeezzz!!

Mine's covered under my Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account, it's £12.50 a month and the main benefits are here http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/ultimatereward.asp

Also covers water damage on the phone!
  • Hmmmm seems like I'd better ring back then

I did say explain to both 02 reps that I had bought the phone from CPW and they assured me this was fine but suppose it's better to be safe than sorry...

If it turns out that I am not covered then can anyone reccomend who to go with for cover?

I've heard CPW's insurance is really bad and will have a hard time claiming so wanna steer clear of that.

I'm with RBS and they only do it with a royalties account which I do not have.

    Appreciated, Thanks.

I couldn't find and details of the phone insurance on the site.
Many of these bundled accounts have limitations!Eg. First directs only pays out a max of £300, and that isn't going to cover a replacement iPhone.
