You don't say where you intend to buy the Sony DVD from but there are lots of places selling them a lot cheaper than £39.99.
    Try

I did write that I was looking at maplin and i was looking on the pc world website and found the drives to be quite expensive and when I looked at maplin I thought that £39.99 was quite cheap, however you guys have proven me wrong and now i don't know which one to buy and where from.

    Any suggestions please help.

    Hello

I'm using a Liteon and a HP at the moment both bought from DCS.
The liteon is about 5 years old the HP about 2 years old.
No problems so far and both cost less than £20
  • ok so which is the fastest one to get, or which is the best?

Liteon used to actually make " Sony " drives, not sure if they still do.

Don't worry about the fastest speed as the discs are still very much the slowest link -I burn dvd's at 8x which some people don't even use that fast even tho' dvd writers claim ,say, 22x or24x
Some writers can be a bit noisier than others which isn't so good so maybe google them.
  • Thanks for that i have just been looking in amazon and have found this one

Odd both drives would go the same time.

When was the last time both drives worked and have you deleted anything from your computer since they last worked?
  • Hi thanks for reply,

I know i was thinking the same thing, why have they BOTH gone. Anyway I haven't done anything to my pc that I can think of, and they were working in december as far as I can remember.

Firstly, that's a SATA drive and I thought you needed IDE? Does the cable connector on your drives look like the picutre Basmic posted earlier?

Secoindly it's a lightscribe drive which means you can use special discs and burn a picture onto the surface. I've never met anyone who actually uses this functionality so unless you see a drive with this that is really cheap there's not much point in getting one with it.

It's still very odd they've both packed up at once.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
