Hey
Good Luck to your son and his future career. The only thing i would advise is too look into the trade your son wishes to pursue. I joined the Royal Signals as a Radio Systems Operator, I was steered towards this after passing the selection process at Lichfield (By a Officer with a Royal Signals Cap Badge) as when i left i would have a trade. Well i have now left and my trade is useless in Civilian life :S And i am back at college at 25 with a bunch of hyped up 16 yr olds - not fun

He wanted to play golf professionally and started a Btec course. Hated it. Has had a year out and feels isolated. He is very talented but lonely and realistic.
I want to feel pleased and proud that he is taking control of his life but I am not being very brave.
He has reasonable GCSE grades but no other academic qualifications. I made him do a Princes Trust course - community service etc. He loved the team work and that helped him decide. He is very good at xbox military games and has spoken to guys online who have or are serving soldiers - some with high rank, he tells me.
I don't want him doing two years training and then getting sent to his death. He assures me he will not.
I have found some messages helpful but I still feel heart broken and feel that I have lost him already. It is selfish and I know I have to put my feelings aside for his sake.0 -

He is so dedicated & yes we have talked about the worst possible case scenario but then again he could get run over by a bus or stabbed/shot by a low life in this country!! Any tips for his interview?£100 - £10,0000 -
Great thread, thank you OP for posting. My son is 9yrs old and he wants to join the army. No-one else in the family is in the forces. But he enjoys Cub Scouts and the outdoor life so maybe he will go down this path. It was interesting to read these posts!0
