Has he thought about the cadets or the TA?
Good luck to him.

If he isn't able to join the regulars then he is also ineligible for the TA as the recruitment criteria are identical, the Cadets might be an option but its a youth club with a military feel rather than necessarily a route in to the forces in itself which is something to bare in mind. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

HTH,

RAF Armourer 1984-1996.
My niece wants to be a crab as well, she wants to be a pilot so I have told her to keep her fitness improving and work hard at school, she is only just 13 though, but nothing like having a plan.
I was going to join the reserves as a rockape but as I am waiting for a couple of gallstones and my gall bladder being whipped out
it's on hold for now. They let you join up to 55 if you have previous experience so next year maybe. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

There are some jobs that are not deployed, but not many. Even then there are posts which are not specific to any trade or specialisation so these people contribute to the out of are effort.
It would be like joing the police and saying you dont want to go to fights on a friday night.0 -
Come on guys people are posting on here for advice to help them make informed decisions. Personal opinions which seem to be put on the board to simply cause offence or stir up a disagreement are not helpful for the OP.0

Most of my friends are army officers, even im x army so i find that remark ridiculious, and i think you should stick to watching yout movies...there not real based on army either...
As for the orginial op, Well its a hard life in the army but you sign up you swear alligence to protect people and our way of life, You learn well, looked after, come back to idiots who winge and moan about why we at war in the first place(its not a goverment falut iraq was yes but not afganistan! the taliban were leaders in afganistan who killed alot of people who asked for change, they are fanticis who beleive in one whole religion whos drug farming affects us in western countries fact:95%per cent of afgan poppy seed that makes herion come from afganistan) also religious killings, so ask your self again: why should we be there, because we used most of our partial troops in peace time also, should of we been there when bosnia there, you would probelly say no because you watch movies and think thats the lifestyle when it aint,
The fact is there is not much work about, young people want to better themselves and get away from the people who judge there every move just like me and my firends did, at the time before labour got into power there was 2.8 million of our work, in my town all there was for work was agency work who let you work one whole day then kept you hanging on for months, or just factory work and beleive me who wants to do all there lives stuck in a factory or go and take a sense of adventure in different places, working with people abroad and defending the countries we are all born from.
god bless our boys and girls out there,"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
