(He will learn what this means).

Also the question all Signals Corps members ask on meeting for the fist time.

  • Well done on the Scaley Back in the family :-)
If he has only half the fun and life experiences I did in my 24 years in the REME (God's Corp LOL) then he will be very very happy.

I think the best way for 16 year olds to go is through the Army foundation college route. 42 weeks training in Harrogate and getting a good monthly wage too. if you need further details you can pm me, my son went thruogh the AFC route and it was a great education for him.

I joined the army back when i was 20 years old, from the very first day i hated it, i didn't really know what to expect before i got there.
I felt alone and miserable, and i wasn't the only one, the 6 people in my room were exactly the same. I will give you a story
One lad had been in the army since he was 16, he was 17 when i met him, and was still in training due to injuries ( shin splints) he wanted out but his mother told him if he leaves he would need to find somewhere else to stay..... shocking.

If someone asked me if they should join the army, i would say no, i hated it with a passion and still gives me nightmares, while i was there i never got into trouble or got my locker trashed that bad, but it was the fact that i wasn't in charge of my own life/fate however you want to put it. I eventually got out after speaking to my officer in command and having to write a letter.

I think 16 is far to young to join the army imho, when i was 16 i didn't have a clue what i wanted to do.

What ever he does i wish him the best of luck.

I have a 9 year old wanting to join the Army. I guess it's in his blood, My Dad did 25 years (REME) and my hubby is Army. Poor mite had no chance! I have told him if he can study and go in as an officer, but I know he'll be a ranked, like Hubby and Dad.

    Thanks for the post.
I hope you dont mind me saying, but joining the army without knowing anything about it has got to be a bad move, some kids are pushed into it by their parents and thats not good, its got to be the kid that wants it.
The drop out rate among 16yr olds is high, but thats a good thing, if its not right for you then there is no shame in that. We couldnt all do the same job.

I will support him in what he does, and encourage him, but at the end of the day if its not for him when he has given it a good go, I will still be very proud of him. Its got to be what he wants to do.

He is waiting for a date in March to start training at Winchester, so fingers crossed with all the cuts, he will get a date soon.
