Whatever the application helpline can see is what the branch can see.

They can see the status, opened, approved, declined, etc. The branch can appeal the decision but not override it. The result of the appeal is returned within four working hours, so if it is a decline, and you appeal it in branch first thing Friday morning, they should have an answer by close of business.

The chap in branch today told me that appeals (near as) always get declines overturned if they were turned down due to excessive searches.

(Yes, I'm having a hell of a time with Barclays! They told me my two current accounts had been opened on Friday, but only one was... the second one was declined, so I'm waiting on the answer from the appeal. I'll let you know how it goes - I would imagine the chap in branch new exactly what to say to get a decline overturned, so...)

Thanks again - very useful info.....

So are you totally new to Barclays then or existing customer? I wonder if they commission for the new account, being they seem willing to help like that?

One other thing, did you see the screen in branch like HBOS let you, or is it turned away from you? ie. could you see pre-approved offers or anything or is it not worth being greedy when you're in there lol?

Sorry for replying to izools response.:o

They do get a comission when opening new accounts/products. The more accounts/products they open or sell, they meet their sales targets.

The screen is turned away from you mostly, but when they want to let you see something like a list of products, checking personal details, etc... they will swing the screen to let you see.

    Thanks mate

I know what you mean, I may just go into town and open the Barclays one and then venture into RBS - why not!

I'll do it on Friday when i'm off work!

Regards to Lloyds, they are the ones that cifas'd me last february so still got that showing and as for HBOS, funnily enough they also cifas'd me last february! lol

p.s. where is BM nowadays? His profile isn't even there is it?

    Why did you get cifas'd?

It could be a decline when they see CIFAS on your credit file.... Or should I assume you appealed against it, and now it's off your credit file?
  • Hiya

Both my Cifas's don't show on my credit file, only within cifas. But then why did they send that letter and not just decline me? See what i'm saying?

Also the cifas is 11 months old now and I did appeal them and lloyds/hbos refused to budge leaving me with a choice - court or quit. I cannot afford to take on those two banks at the same time for something that would be gone a year later!

They added it when I had the incorrect linked address, which has now been removed in full - no trace anywhere of it except on the cifas's.

    make sense?

HSBC removed their £250 CGC's mate - they are no longer available - they started withdrawing them when they replaced the maestro cards with Visa. :)

Thanks for that NID, their reasons look like a load of old botox to me.;)

I ain't going to pay them a penny just to get a better card ( HSBC Plus ).

Ive been paying £12.50 for a year now mate and feel a little peeved considering i've never even went into their 'Plus' website - let alone utilised any of the carp I pay for! Thus I am looking to move away altogether cos they are winding me up now restricting my accounts

Good for you, the £10,000 Annual Bond I have with them that ends 29th January 2010 is now going to be moved to Nationwide, not a huge amount in the bigger picture, but it will make me feel better.;)

I've banked with Barclays since I was 14 (I miss the old debit card with the blue barclays logo sphere on a darker blue background. Looked awesome swish IMHO). Closed my current a/c when I started getting deep into debt and went back last April after I was discharged from Bankruptcy.

After having the two cashcard accounts (personal and household) for 6+ months they happily opened the current a/c. I want to open two current a/counts so I can close both cashcards but it's looking like I might have to wait another six months before opening the second current a/c.

They are usually happy to let me see the screen, but then again I'm a nosy sod so they'd have to be quite obvious in not letting me see.

Can't see pre-approved limits on their screen, just all the accounts including Barclaycard. Interestingly, their system shows four "decline notified" messages for my Barclaycard, and the account itself..... mad

  • I don't know about Barclays but having just opened a basic account with Nationwide, my experience might help.

I didn't want to be credit scored and Nationwide told me that if I made a postal application for the basic account, then I would not be credit scored. However, if I went into a branch or applied online, then even for the same account, I would be credit scored and checked.

They could not explain in any great detail but two different branches and on the phone gave the same information.
