But my old Maestro Card had a £250 Cheque Guarantee on it, this crabby Visa Card has £100, that is not better, that is worse.

    Apparently Visa max is £100.

Never had a problem using my Maestro anywhere.

Anyway, I am hogging NIDs thread, so I had better shut up.:D

I heard a couple of years back that HSBC were phasing out the £250 cheque cards due to them being too much of a risk, and everyone who used to have a £250 switch card had it reduced to £100 when their next card arrived -- this happened a long time before the switch to visa. I'm guessing you were one of the last people to have the £250 card before it expired.

However, having said that, I did see a HSBC plus visa £250 card the other day at work, so maybe they started doing them again for plus accounts?

Thanks, that has cheered me up no end.. :D

Seriously, my internal limits havn't dropped, or at least they shouldn't have done.

I would sooner have no CGC than move to Barclays.;)

HSBC removed their £250 CGC's mate - they are no longer available - they started withdrawing them when they replaced the maestro cards with Visa. :)

Did you get the account sorted today? If so, how did it go?

Hiya matey - thanks for your reply, I did see it and forgot to reply lol (soreee!).

Do you work for them, you do seem clued up :p

I never went in, I managed to get a BT bill from November that tallies with my December bank statement so they can see the bill, the direct debit and proof of payment.

BUT, that said, i'm not going to bother if they can still decline me, their letter does sound very 'accepted' with the use of certain words but I do know better than to believe this.

I am thinking of posting a copy of my passpost with the original BT bill and an original bank statement - I dunno!

    Help! :rotfl:

I don't work for them. I know most of the stuff from BarclaysManager, people posting on this forum, and from bank staff when I'm there to open accounts (they sometimes explain the process, reasons behind things, etc...).

You could have the Cash Card Account for now if you get declined. After using it for a few months, ask for an upgrade.

I would give them a call to see if you will be accepted when going into branch.

I think you should still go in, and give it a try though.

If you really give up in the end, I would recommend having an account with LTSB or HBOS. Hopefully, you will have more luck there.
  • Thanks mate

I know what you mean, I may just go into town and open the Barclays one and then venture into RBS - why not!

I'll do it on Friday when i'm off work!

Regards to Lloyds, they are the ones that cifas'd me last february so still got that showing and as for HBOS, funnily enough they also cifas'd me last february! lol

p.s. where is BM nowadays? His profile isn't even there is it?

If you call them they can tell you whether it's accepted.

They should see it as status "Pending Completion" or "Pending Opening".

If it's a decline, they'll see it clearly.

Mate I did this though, they told me it was declined then I got the letter :wall:

How do you know the pending status lol - tell me more...?

They make no sense to me, remember I applied last year and still (to this date) have never heard from them! This account I applied for last week, so it is different of course.

Are they open now to ask, anyone have a good number :):)

If Barclays approve an account it is set up ready to open after someone in branch "Sanctions" the application with appropriate ID and a specimen signature. (Hence Pending Completion - this is where my current account application was until I went in and they photocopied my ID, took (another) specimen signature, and job done account opened, a/c number generated)

Just call the new business number 0500 007 234, doubt they're open now.

Cheers mate - well what you've said does tally with the letter they have sent me, i.e. to go into branch and they can open the account there and then etc...

Whenever i've rung in the past (old app) they told me branches override the call centres and they can tell me nothing lol - I just dismissed it as a fob-off. maybe not then!

I wont bother ringing, maybe just go in on Friday. BUT if I did ring though, would I ask about the status or is that to be kept quiet? Will they know what I mean or will they think i'm a thick twit lol :p

    Thanks again :T
