I don't care whether they are trying to earn a living - a burglar earns a living too. The telephone sales method is as intrusive as door to door salesmen. I don't always check the number calling because sometimes I think the call might be important. It could be the school calling from one of their many local numbers and I don't have them all to store. If you work for them you accept the joking and borderline abuse or get another job.

As to whether these callers get paid? Well my ex-double glazing manager friend says that there are plenty of firms employing telesales with no hourly wage and only a bonus on each appointment fixed up.

My favorite stock answer is within seconds of sussing its a sales call I start insisting politely they give me their credit card details, when they ask why I explain they are getting paid for their time so I need to bill them for my time, I won't budge a word beyond this and they just give up.

I never actually get any calls (must be a reason they dont want to talk to me!) but the best story I had is that my friend was offered a store card while out shopping for the millionth time that day so she started manically laughing going "you are going to give me credit, you are going to lend me money, no one else will lend me any more, oh my god!" etc etc.

The sales assistant looked gobsmacked and slightly scared and said she was going to call her manager to process the application. We just paid and left, laughing hysterically obviously!!

I must remember that one! I do love the ones that promise to reduce my bills - I usually trump them by saying I dont pay the bills!
LMAO - after a stunned silence they usually ask who DOES pay the bills? I reply, my employer, I am just the housekeeper. they usually then ask to speak to them - my reply is they cant - they live in spain! if they persist i tell them its for security reasons - the reason being they will be arrested if they set foot in UK! normally I have to hang up if they got this far as i am laughing too much!

PMSL I will have to remember this one for tomorrow because we run a business and get these types of calls all the time even though we're on one of them caller preference things.
