Hi, GOGGS75, I think the confusion arises from the fact that some products on sale are 'normal' retail versions and some cheaper ones are OME versions that are meant to be installed on a newly built pc. With the normal version you can usually just input the new key and thats it. With the OME version the product key is a different format so cannot be used to renew your subscription. Another point is that if you are changing from 2009 to 2010 it usually needs a 'clean' install.
The new 2010 version of norton is a much lighter product and as someone earlier said, if it does slow down your pc you must have some underlying system resource issues with the pc. Every year I purchase the latest OME version , for around £20 or under, remove the old product and install the new one. It usually takes about 20 mins or so. As previously mentioned the latest 2010 can be bought for around £20 and can be installed on 3 pc's. A quick search brought up NIS2010 for £13.75 at ebuyer.com ,for the 1 pc version.

Also don't forget that whist you are 'in subscription' you can upgrade your Norton product to the latest version for free, just log on to your Norton account.

  • Hi,

I have decided to uninstall then reinstall Norton 2010 to avoid paying the full subscription of £54.99. WH Smiths are currently selling it for around £25.

One point noticed on the Norton website was that in US dollars it is a lot cheaper to renew the subscription, around $39.99. I tried this but had to input my address in the UK and could not select the UK as a country.

I like the product but am disappointed with the Norton tactics used to get money out their customers.

    Thanks for all your advise.

  • Hi can anyone help please? We bought a new laptop at Christmas and also bought Norton 360 version3.0 For the past 6 weeks roughly messages keep coming on screen to say our Norton is soon to expire? Now today it has said on screen Norton has now expired? It says 1 year protection on the front of the Norton security box, so what should I do now? Please if anyone can help me I would be very grateful as I do not know an awful lot about these things
Do a little kindness every day.;)

You would have had a trial, which has now run out.
Edit: Just re read your post, did you ever intstall Norton and register it?
You could renewit via the Norton website which would be expensive or go for one of the cheap NIS2010 packages mentioned above.

The situation you are now in is that you have no antivirus, anti spyware protection.

I would recommend you download Microsoft Security Essentials, its free and fairly well thought of. The buit in windows firewall should be fine especially if you use a router.

PS Norton 360 should be uninstalled when you have downloaded MSE.

Yes, and it's the very same people who then put their credit card details into malware/trojan applications offering 'security'. People rarely listen although they tend to be scared but that's what these garbage programs like Norton/McAfee play on. It's pre-installed too often so is even worse than malware. It's got them hooked. If they don't take advice from a forum like MSE then they really are daft.
