I was expecting OP to at least post again, but as there have been as many positive posts as negative, perhaps they have thought again?
why the post in the first place? have you recently been ripped off?
If you have, I sympathise, I remember something called the fraudulent medium act but am not sure if its still current or has been revoked. please post again OP and if this is the case will try to find out if there is anything you can do.0 -
Seraphseven wrote: »The other explanation you are looking for is all in the "art" of cold reading, Humans have evolved to make quick and easy links in their brains, assumptions that are there to help us survive in day to day life.
Our brain is one big link making machine it's what it has been naturally selected to become, this sort of thing was useful for example, when our ancestors were faced with a predator; they wouldn't think, "now is this a nice lion or is he going to be one of the ones that tries to eat me" instead their brain would make that natural link between Lion and danger and they'd get the hell out of there, Incidentally this is how a lot of our racial stereotypes are so hard to fight against.
Anyway, what i'm saying in a roundabout way is, people are predictable in so many ways. Think of a geometric shape, something like a square but not so obvious, chances are you thought of a triangle, or if you were trying to catch me out then a dodecahedron :rotfl: this is a very crude example but 9 times out of 10 that would be a "hit" for a medium obviously it doesn't only work with shapes but "you have had issues with a loved one in the past month or so" this could be a range of so many things, You could have fallen out with a partner, a parent could have been ill etc etc. but again 9/10 this would have been a "hit"
And once they've got one or two false hits people are generally putty in their hands: from this point on, anything they say will be made to fit your life by your wonderfully evolved, lion dodging, link making brain. It's human nature, and of course when you think about it later you naturally remember the things he/she said that would fit your life and forget the rest of the dubious not quite hits that came in between.
This is a quick basic overview of the sort of things that can affect the human brains' perception on reality, apologies if i rambled but i find all of this sort of thing fascinating. If anyone is interested i have dabbled in reading people and am normally pretty accurate, I could actually PM anyone that requested it (free of charge of course
), a reading based entirely on their personal profile on this site to see how accurate I may be. Let me know if you are interested!

Its a good explination, but she knew all the memebers of my family that are deceased and how they died, and the baby girl id lost a few years before thru a miscarrige which only i knew about. And my uncle who wasnt really my uncle, and his name and how he died. She told me about my mums -mums freind, who used to know my mum as a child, who id never heard about and i thought she was wrong, she said she always smelt of fresh flowers and brought fresh flowers and told me her name. when i mentioned it to my mum she burst into tears of shock.
The medium told me i cant tell you your future no one knows it, i can only tell you what they tell me. you would have had to be there to understand. It was strange. I can understand you being sceptical until you have experianced it.0 -
Hey yeah I was going to post again, Was just reading over all the comments, I wasn't ripped off, I went knowing that this woman was a fraud and after hearing everyone say how good and accurate she was I decided to go myself, I have read up on all the articles about cold reading and the James randi thing over the past few months, and knew that most mediums are fakes. I think someone hit the nail clean on the head a few points up where they said that people will hear things and in there brain make themselves believe it whatever the medium is telling the subject. What I done was to this medium was used reverse psycholgyon her, When I phoned her up I had said to her I had the day off work ( I am currently not working and due to start back in a few days) I wore smart clothes and drove a friends fancy car to her place, She was telling me the dead person she was supposedly talking to was telling her my job in an office was going very well, (I've never worked in a office in my life) She also got near enough everything else wrong, apart from a few things correct, I don't feel ripped off, It's other people I hate seeing ripped off,
I do believe there is something else after this life, I have saw some strange things myself, I do hate these scam artists though who con people out of there cash which a lot of mediums do,0 -
Well - I do think it is possible to see/hear the dead - because people I know personally have done so with someone close to them and told me about it and they were definitely telling the truth.
On the other hand - I've seen my share of mediums and psychics and have never yet encountered any genuine ones.
So - I'm quite sure that many of us can see/hear someone close to us who has passed on. What I dont know is whether there are genuine mediums/psychics out there at all - there are one heck of a lot of charlatans...but I'm not going to say that there arent actually any genuine ones. I've just never met a genuine one yet - and have given up trying because of the risk of encountering yet another charlatan.
One can judge a lot about someone by just looking/listening to them - but I do recall a case in point of one of these charlatans I encountered saying "you have children at university". Well - look at my age/look at me and...yep...if I actually HAD children then they most probably WOULD be at University. But I dont actually have any children - so ...nope....wrong guess...
HAS anyone at all ever met a genuine one then?
I doubt it. Theres no such thing. You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

actually griff - you didnt use reverse psychology - you out and out LIED! then you expected an accurate reading!
and on the basis of this - you condemn ALL mediums.
it sounds to me as if you were an antagonistic client, and threw the medium off her stroke completely.
I suggest you visit a spiritualist church a few times, just sit there and LISTEN, take notes if you like, many people do that during services/readings. and see how many times the medium hits the mark without cold reading, or being intimate with the area. most spiritualist churches use mediums who DONT live locally so cannot pick on people they know. some mediums are better than others - and some have bad nights when they cant seem to get things right, but later people will say - well, I went home and told mum/dad/gran/ neighbour, and they were exactly right!
you went with a closed mind expecting a rip-off and that is what you say you got. I am wondering now if the medium was so inacurate or did you just not like the message you got?
I cannot say anymore as it would be so abusive i would get chucked off the site.0 -

Funny that... :rolleyes:You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Tangraid How did i lie to her? :rotfl: surely now because i came in a friends car and dressed different that is hardly lying, I mean if she was really talking to the person i had in the photo surely she would of knew then? and all the other things she got wrong, Funny how she also said a few things to my friend who had been not so long ago, I didn't let on though he had been there as she was fishing to how i found out about her
wonder why, And to all those people you know in your church who talk to dead people and give real readings then why not tell them about the 1 million they could pick up quite easy if they were to prove they really could talk to dead people, As i say again cold reading some people have it off to a T and could fool even some non believers that they were really talking to people who were dead. 0 -
Yes, I have had accurate readings. Including one where I was told about an Uncle Jack on my mother's side. I repeatedly said he must mean my father's side, but he insisted and brought it up several times. He could very easily have said he was mistaken and it was my dad's side, but did not. A few weeks later, I remembered, I did have an Uncle Jack on my mum's side, but he was killed in an accident when I was a baby, so I had forgotten. He was a Great Uncle, but married to my Aunty Daisy, who we loved and saw very often.
There we go, each to his own.
Just wondered how OP knows none of them ever pay tax. Second sight ?????0 -

Hun, MOST people, if they were to dig deep enough, would have an 'Uncle Jack on their mothers side'You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Hun, MOST people, if they were to dig deep enough, would have an 'Uncle Jack on their mothers side'
a common name...'tis true.....
....but errr....nope....dont think I have an Uncle Jack - on either side of the family...
Now - if someone were to tell me that I have a lot of "hard-headed/very practical" type dead relatives - then we'd be talking....yep...that WOULD be my family we are on about....To my knowledge - both sides of my family have always been very practical/cautious/good with money/etc......maybe there is a "dissolute" or "wastrel" one somewhere along the line - but I'd have to go and ask my parents closely to see if there had been one if a medium/psychic said there was. Hence - I think family characteristics are a LOT more revealing than names.....0
