iPhone Haggle

Has anyone had any luck trying to haggle with a new iPhone contract?

I know you will have no luck if you are a brand new customer - the iphone is a set price, and the contracts are all fairly similar. And after a conversation with O2 in one of their shops, there is no upgrade option at the end of my contract. I simply have to buy another iPhone full price if I want one!

But as I'm approaching the end of my 18 months wit O2, and the iPhone is no longer exclusive to O2, I was wondering if I threaten to switch to Vodafone or Orange they might offer me a better deal?

With other phone contracts, I have told O2 I would like to go to Vodafone and they have pulled out all the stops to keep me (at one point offered my 9 months free on a 12 month contract!).

Has anyone had any luck with this? I have two months left on my current deal

I think its fair to say that long gone are the days when O2 would bend over backwards to keep your custom, especially when it comes to iPhoe tarrifs! I'm pretty certain they won budge on the iPhone tarrif, the only thing they seem to bend on is offering refurbished iPhones for free.

Its the way its going I'm afraid, as phones become more expensive, mobile operators need to save money wherever they can which is why they always push 18/24 month contracts.

If you threaten to leave I think they'll just say ok, as they know Orange/Voda's tarrifs are pretty much identical!

The networks don't have any room to move on the tariff. Apple tell them what to charge, so you can threaten whatever you like, they have no control over it...

Have you see the posts regarding the "Simplicity for iPhone" tariff for £20 which gives more texts and minutes than the original £35 tariff ?

I recently switched onto this (keeping my old iPhone 3G) as it is only a monthly deal so I can get an iPhone 4 when they allegedly come out in the summer...

    Thanks

    Gavin

I think you'll find that's for retention deal.

Friends and Family is 30% and won't cover iPhones. I work for Orange, even staff don't get discount...

John, take a look at the intranet - it's all there. Launched on Tuesday.
