Hi All

I tried to set up broadband with virgin as thoght it good deal not having to tie in with them for a year. after putting in all details was told i needed a credit card for first payment Which i dont have. Phoned to see if could use debit card, which it said on website , and was told NO End of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THOUGHT I SAVE YOU SOME TIME IF YOU AINT GOT A CREDIT CARD

BEWARE

if like me you are intending on doing the above then you may be in for a shock when you want to migrate.

Apparently I have been connected on Data stream which means you cant migrate to the majority of ISPs. However on IP stream you can.

Is it certain that Virgin use Datastream still rather than IPStream?

I've emailed them to try to find out, but have had no answer... :-/

I have found tiscali to be usefull.  I pay £25 on a 1 year contract (free setup and modem) for 512k unlimited access.
I have noticed that for £25 I can get 1M unlimited, I sent them an e-mail and have told me that all existing users on 512k paying £25 will be automatically upgraded to 1M.
No limits and very reliable, I stay online virtually 24/7.

i am on 512 but still within the first year I signed up for, does this make any difference?
i have read some horrors on here about Tiscali but have had no probs whatsoever (fingers crossed it stays that way)

Check your modem size can it handle 1mg or is it only 512mb if it is you will still only get 512mb download even though they upgrade your account to 1mg


I am with Virgin And was paying I think £24.99 month for 512mb unlimited two years ago.

I had been paying this quite happy till I saw that the £24.99 package now gives 2mb and was unlimited for £24.99. (This is now limited to 20gb a month)

But I still had the 512mb modem, they never told me they had up-graded the account, for a year I was paying for 2mg and only getting 512mb download speed.

T&Cs state it is my reasonability to upgrade the modem they just provided the 512mb as a start-up pack. (But if they never tell you!!!!!!!)

Wonder if they still do this???? It's great having a 2mg line but if they only give you a 512mb modem you may as well only pay them the £14.99 for option 3.

Still I have been with them for around 3 years now and the service has been good so far....... but still looking for a better deal.....
