I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

This guy likes to charge for his services though, keeps saying ill do it for you for a cheap price etc etc.
Oh I see. A more coarse version of "go away" would seem to be appropriate.
I cant just not let him in either cos he lets himself in!
Change the lock then! And stick one of these on the outside of the door.

    Cheers

I think a kindly 'listen, lovely talking to you but I really have to get on. How about a cuppa when I'm here on xxxxday?' whilst walking him to the door couldn't offend.

Great advice, it works for me when the lady or the gentleman of the house I am working in want to chat, I give them 5-10 mins, dab a bit of paint on the wall, turn to face them, then turn away dabbing a bit more paint on the wall.
Then I put my brush down and just say, 'Mrs smith, I dont mean to be rude, but I must crack on, and need to get this bit finished before I go home tonight, I'll have a quick chat you with later over a cuppa', and it always works.:D

Where do you live that you consider it so safe as to leave the front door unlocked? I've heard to many stories of people simply walking door to door, trying the front door. If they walk in and find people there they make up a story about being in the wrong house, mates given wrong details, confused, etc and just leave. If they walk in and find nobody sat there, they grab what they can and scarper.
