Morrisons seem to always be having issues with Chip and PIN going down, seems to happen more there than anywhere else. Knowing how old fashioned Morrisons are though I wouldn't be surprised if the whole operation was running off a 56k dial up connection.

  • I always try to be as helpful as I can but personally I think it's funny when customers get annoyed with you for a completely invalid reason and remaining calm and not telling them what they want to hear makes them even madder and make less sense. If they continue to make any unwanted contact like in Sarah's OP any complaint or anything they might try to persue is also void too so they make it worse for themselves.

i had a customer get !!!!!! with me 2 days before christmas because we didn't have any sprouts left. i told her i'm sorry we didn't have any, but it was 2 days before xmas plus the weather, we weren't likely to get any more in. i apologised and she just told me it wasn't good enough. started herself crying (like some women can) and went straight to customer service and put in quite the complaint about me, saying i was being abusive and i'd left her 'in floods of tears' and she 'felt scared' when i started laying into her for leaving it so late.

what she didn't know was that my team leader was stood about 12 inches behind her, listening to the entire conversation, as i was being observed.

i got 100% and she was asked to leave the store.

if my manager wasn't there though, she could easily have got me into a lot of trouble
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

On my OH's very last day working in customer service, a man came in and tried making a payment with their credit card. It got declined, so OH asked if the customer had an alternative method of payment, or if not, would be able to contact his bank.

The customer accused him of declining it on purpose, called him a "f*****g c**t" and threatened to sue him because he was some sort of legal fellow. To his credit, OH remained calm and didn't say one of the MANY MANY things I suggested he reply with (seeing as it was his last day).

Luckily, I've not had anybody that bad, but customers do make it a habit of reading nothing EXCEPT either the part of a sign that says "Save £50" or a price ticked when an item is in the wrong place. If it's in the right place, or has any more information that needs to be read (like how to save the £50) they don't want to know.

I was in a Tesco filling station the other day with my boyfriend and this particular site was "Cash only, No Credit or debit cards accepted in the kiosk or at pay@pump due to system fault" every pump had a sign saying this and as you drove into the site there was several notices quite clear.

When I was picking some goods up for our journey I noticed several people trying to pay by card ignoring the signs and one even saying "Oh that sign doesn't apply to me as its a tesco credit card" However one customer said "I want to pay by f**king card and I can pay how I want you f**kwit I'm going to make a complaint", the assistant pointed the sign out on the desk and the customer grabbed his hand and the assistant politely asked him to let go as this was just silly. the customer threw the money at him and demanded a receipt. The assistant then said "I'm going to have to ask you leave now and if you wish to make a complaint about this incident call the number on the receipt and they can trace me back through the receipt", He kept his cool really really well and the assistants arm was red and he kept on serving customers, I fired off an email to tesco to say how fantastic he handled the situation.

Why can't customers read signs? or they get nasty to the assistants its not their fault. Some customers really treated the assistants awful, however I've seen this in many places, and then on here when they don't get what they want. We should cut staff in retail some slack.

If I was the assistant involved, I would be reporting the incident as an assault to the police.

If there is one thing you learn working in a customer service based environment, it's that a large proportion of the British public are complete and utter morons.

Which is why after I left Natwest (the only job I ever quit because I couldn't take it anymore), I vowed never to work in customer service ever again. Okay, the job conditions were also poor, and I've never seen a job where half the staff were signed off with stress all the time, but the morons pushed me over the edge ;)
