UPDATE:

I've decided to go with O2 (as a pay as you go customer) with a BT landline.

I've set up and topped up an O2 sim card and called BT to reactivate the landline (which should be free) but BTs systems are down and will be until at lease 6pm tonight so I'll try again tomorrow.
