    Thanks for replying.

    I'd prefer a faster connection than 8mbps.

However, if I did go for virgin media the 10mbps broadband with phone bundle (which I'm not sure if I can even get since my conversation with the guy in the orange shop) works out at £257. The 10mbps broadband only is £225.

I can't find any cashback site that offers money back on these. They all seem to only offer on either services that are not provided by cable or TV/Broadband/phone bundles only.

So to me o2 looks like a clear winner, unless I'm not factoring in something? I just want to make sure I'm working this out correctly.

But you don't need to take the phone, if you are in a cable area then you can take broadband on its own. 10Mb is £15 per month for 3 months then £20 per month afterwards. Quidco offer cashback on this deal, £65 for all cable bundles / packages. http://www.quidco.com/virgin-media/

Check your post code on the Virginmedia site, as long as you are in a cable area you can take broadband on its own.

Like I said before, take VM cable broadband on its own then if you need a phone line look at voip, far cheaper than paying for standard line rental.

If you want faster than 8Mbps on 02, go for the Home Premium service, which is £2.50 more than the standard service.
This gives you up to 18Mbps. Use the line checker on the O2 site to give you an idea of the likely max speed your line can support.
This package also carries a higher cashback (£100 vs £75 on Quidco), so by paying an extra £25 in the first year (first 2 months free), you'll get £25 back. O2 Premium for the price of standard. If after 12m you feel the extra speed is not worth it, just downgrade then.

Thanks, that's the one I've been looking at.

I didn't think I could check the line without already having the internet in?

Thanks, I understood that I didn't need to take the phone.

I read in previous threads that the VM cashback only applies when you take a bundle of all three products. Has anyone received cashback when signing up to the internet only?

If you have a phone number, you can check the speed without it already being an ADSL line. Without a phone number, you can do a postcode check, which is not so accurate, but will tell you if Premium is worth it , i.e if the line will support more than 8Mbps (though as I said above, Premium will cost you no more than Standard if you use Quidco at present).

This has come up before, but not sure of the resolution. Quidco say that cashback is available on VM 'bundles/packages'-which to me implies that you would need to take more than one service to qualify.

Mom & a work colleague both signed up for broadband only, late last year when the offer was £150 cashback. They both recieved the full cashback without a problem.

As a new customer with Virgin you get 28 days after installation to change your mind and cancel the contract. If the cashback didn't track you could use this option.

This is confusing me a bit now

So, if it's now between Virgin and O2 have I got this right for a 12 month period?

    O2
Bt landline rental for 1 year £138.48 (11.54 a month)
    o2 customer 20mbps broadband £100 (£10 a month with 2 months free)
    o2 mobile phone £40 (£10 every 3 months)
    Cashback £100
    Total £148.48

    VM
    no landline
    20mbps broadband £345 (3 months @ £25 and 9 months @ £30)
    cashback £65
    Total £280
    OR
    VM
    landline £132 (£11 per month)
    20mbps broadband £200 (£20 a month with 2 months free)
    cashback £65
    Total £267

At least this thread might be helpful to others! :o

Can you link me to where I can do this? I've searched around the o2 website but haven't managed to find it.

Sorry, my mistake, the postcode checker only gives availability.

Just go to http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp and click through on the buy now on premium.

I just did this for a phone with no internet on it and get...

O2 Home Broadband is available in your area

We've estimated that your maximum download speed is 17 meg .This is based on information BT gave us about your BT line.
Actual download speeds depend on different things, like the distance between your telephone exchange and your home, or the quality of your BT line. We'll work with what's there and always give you the fastest speed we can, depending on your chosen package. Even then, your broadband speed might vary from time to time.
