Daily Mail Medical Books

Options
Was pleased with the free Part One of the medical part-work in last Saturday's paper.

However I now find that to complete the 26-book set, it will cost £90 (25 x £3.60).

A decent Health and Medical book can be bought for around £40 in most good book shops, so I wonder how many people will be drawn into collecting this set just because the outlay is spread over several months.

I won't be, for a start.
:D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

    Me neither but there are obviously a lot of people who do like these installments as they keep churning them out. They often target children with a nice free gift with issue 1. Me I just buy issue 1 if I want the gift.

    Of course there are some who will collect them hoping they will be a future 'antique' and of value.

    i too only buy the first issues of things with good freebies, and also agree that a good family medical book will cost about 20 to 30 quid,

    i wanted to buy one from wh smith for 20 pounds, so i will not be one of those buying the whole lot!! :P

    I work in an Oxfam Bookshop and we are already getting these donated to us . They go straight into the bin because they just don't sell , especially when there are just a couple of parts from the series.

    I bought my newspaper from a supermarket and handed back the free book. They were really surprised as they told me it was 'free' but as I pointed out my house is cluttered enough already and that free book will lie around for weeks before eventually getting dumped in a charity shop (who it seems will bin it anyway).

    By refusing my free copy I saved myself a trip to the charity shop.

    i was just thinking ::)

    if you were looking for a certain illness or injury, do they have an index to tell you which book it would be in and wouldnt it be a pain in the bum, if it was in the last book to collect or one you missed :-/
  • Perhaps the books that are not used or being binned by charity shops could be donated to local schools - am sure they would be useful there. I am a teacher and we can never have too many reference books????
    I think therefore i am....not TOTALLY thick!!!
