wthere is a built in script with vBulletin boards that runs its own report system. i have it on my board (to see what i mean, click on my name then homepgae) and when you click it, it will open the report page and its just a simple click to send.... its a feature this board should have turned on...
I don't know about the latest version of VBulletin, but in the past there was very little ability to configure that system.

When the form is switched on all reports automatically go to Board Guides and optionally also to admin. There was no way to configure it to send the report as an email to an address you specify.

MSE has a system where all abuse reports go to a single email address where they can be properly recorded and dealt with by the Forum Team - Abuse it not dealt with by Board Guides.

Having said that I'd love if they could do something to make up a form or modify the system - I find email hard to send also. Using a web-based system for my email means that the thread address isn't passed on properly so I end up having to cut and paste the details

Just out of interest, whose job do you think you are doing by reporting posts?

M

The moderators.

Afterall the 'report abuse' will be mostly to highlight a problem before a moderator spots it, or it may have been overlooked (can happen very easily). The report button works in the same way, uses the same stuff but it's more accessible to the forummer i.e. everyone can use it whereas not everyone can use the e-mail report button ;)

Yes too much hassle to e-mail. too many for me, especially when I feel like i'm doing someone elses work.

The act of reporting is more hassle than it is to delete a post. This to me seems annoying, and only if the spam is really annoying would I be so botherd as to put myself out.

Probably others think the same too they just don't want to admit it :)

I suspect that lots of other users probably do feel the same way as you and don't *bother* to report spam or abusive posts etc.

Luckily, there are a large number of regular users who do care enough about this site and the quality of the posts that appear on it to *bother* to report posts.

Part of the attraction of this site is the community spirit, where people put themselves out to help others, whether this is other posters or the admin staff who deal with the abuse reports. ;)

However, do remember, board guides don't read every post

I'd say it's upto the people on the boards to help them run in a happy cheerful manner and to report posts. Some posts can be perceievd to be abusive by some readers but not all, therefore moderators wouldn't necessarily report them.

Just to be clear -

it says at the top of every page;
Posts are not monitored so please: Report Spam, Offensive, Racist or Libellous Posts/PMs or other illegal content
This forum works on the basis that reported threads are investigated. Even when the forum was a fraction of the size it is now there were too many posts to have it any other way

The only people who deal with these reports, or have access to them, are the "Forum Team" (MSE ForumTeam1 etc)

Board Guides are only volunteers here to help. We're not moderators. We don't read every post - and it's not expected of us.

:)

I have used the report button only twice, to report spam. I just clicked on the red triangle, the email page opened and I just typed in "Spam post" and sent it off. I'd say less than 30 seconds of my life were taken up by this activity on each occasion.

:)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Mine never works, so I need to login to my account and copy and paste the post to abcon and when I need to report an occasional post which I do manually - it does not take long. Yet to figure out how to set up email to work automatically :o

Large number, but it's still everyone. In this thread there are at least two people who can't be botherd to, and then that's 2 people who would have reported otherwise. I'm not saying what we would report is any different to what already gets reported, but it's still an inconvenience to everyone really including those who already use the current way.

I'm not saying it's bad the current way or a strict problem for those who do use it as it is, it would just be better for everyone to have it built in. Even for the moderators or people who have access to the e-mail account. They don't have to change the way they operate if they find it easier that way, but it's just not efficient at all nono.gif

edit: just looked on another vb forum (using 3.5.4 too) why they don't have this enabled boggles my mind!

It's so much nicer to have that open in your browser than outlook or something else! Also you don't have to mess about with e-mail addresses AND the moderators can know exactly who's report which posts i.e. someone may report every post by a user just to spite them (as an example, i'm not saying anyone would but it can happen).

Isn't that what I was getting at

This system is open to abuse i have replied to a number of posts only to see them disappear when i have put a link on to a site that i think might be of good use to fellow members, only to see it disappears,

Thats not a flaw in the report system it could just be people being pedantic and deleting / editing posts for the wrong reasons.
