Postage too high??
VH
I've been trying to sell something which has fairly low value (cost £10 brand new 4 years ago).
Problem is that it weighs nearly 3kg. So with packaging, the postage cost is around £11 via Royal Mail 1st Class.
Needless to say there has been no interest due to the seemlingly high postage cost!!
Anyone have any suggestions, I would like the item signed for if possible but need to cut the postage down quite a bit?
I am not bothered if the item sells for 99p but I don't want to make a loss on it by undercharging postage just to get rid!

try and send it second class?0

Post Office won't allow 2nd class because of the weight.
If I lose recorded delivery and take a loss on the packaging that might cut it down by a few quid I suppose....0 -
Why not advertise your item without stating the postage costs.
Put something like......buyer will be advised of postage costs prior to payment. Item weighs XXXllbs.
let them find the cost of postage.
If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

If it was £10 new then it is virtually worthless. How can you expect them to pay that when presumably they can buy it new for less.
That is the problem of heavy items.

royal mail parcel costs are £7.20 for up to 4kg
you're adding £3.80 for packaging?
sounds a lot to me
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Was just going to say that robnye - use standard parcels which is much cheaper for heavier goods compared to 1st classroyal mail parcel costs are £7.20 for up to 4kg

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0 -
Postage works out at £10.33 using First Class Standard mail, but that's not even including the weight of the packaging.
Wasn't aware of the Standard Parcels service, this seems a lot cheaper. I will give this a go instead.
I take it that this service isn't signed for?0 -
correct, i dont believe you can have a parcel signed for.smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

you do get a tracking number though if you're worried about paypal chargebacks
also you could just offer local pick up (free p&p)?0 -
I do prefer to send things 'signed for' as at least I can prove delivery if I get a dodgy buyer.
Is it possible to actually prove delivery with the Parcel Service though, as I understand it Paypal actually require proof of delivery rather than proof of sending?
If there's no signature then how do you prove it actually arrived?0
