Salt in food?
Comments

I dont add salt to anything that I am cooking apart from when I am making bread in the breadmaker. The only time the salt pot is on the table is when my Mil stays, the rest of the time it just lives in the cupboard.
I was brought up to salt everything I cooked but gave it up when the children were babies.0 -
The only thing that i use salt for is when i make bread.
We don`t even own a salt pot anymore, years ago i used to salt all my cooking and there was also a salt pot on the table, these days we have only a pepper grinder - theres just something about freshly grated peppercorns
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
I only add salt to the cooking water for potatoes, pasta & rice, nothing else. I don't add extra at the table either. It's just not very good for you & you soon get used to the taste without it. I also find that if I've been to a restaurant I'm insanely thirsty due the salt that's added!
My Nana used to add salt to everything including her morning porridge. She was Glasgow born & bred though so maybe that explains it. We have ours with fruit lol!
I cook everything we eat from scratch so it's easy to control salt intake. I can't control what the children eat when they're away from the house, especially the older 3, but none of them like salty things anyway.0 -
Very little, and then I only use Lo-Salt which is two thirds potassium, making the ration sodium/potassium excellent for health.
I hate to say this but that is not actually true. In fact I know several catering companies that have banned lo-salt because of the high potassium levels which are excessively high.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
.....It still depresses me to see how much salt my Mother pours over her food....snipped
We don't use 'real' salt at all & rarely use Lo-salt as DH has had a heart by-pass & was told to avoid salt due to the damage it does. The hospital view was to cut out all salt, even the low stuff to forget the taste.
It took me a while to adjust to the change but now I get by without except for on home-made low fat oven chips or eggs!
It is rarely a problem except when DH goes home - I swear his mum could get a job gritting the roads she chucks so much of it about - she is Scottish & DH's dad died of his heart problems.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I use rock salt in the kitchen but we don't have any for the table. Its only used in cooking which is in boiling water for potatoes and pasta or in food being cooked from scratch. The exception being where i use cheese the dish (as cheese tends to have salt in it) or I've used stock as I find stock really salty. I'm really sensitive to the taste of salt so even when I add it is only ever a small grind.2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

I use Solo low sodium salt beacause it includes other essential minerals too.

It is too much cheap sodium salt in processed food that is the problem not using a traditional type salt in cooking. As this article explains

I never used to put salt on anything until recently ,
I am under the hospital for fainting nearly every day and it turns out my blood pressure drops too low. So now I have to put salt on every meal and drink lots and I feel alot better now :j.
So it can actually help some people , it all depends on your blood pressure.Kindness costs nothing0 -
I hate the taste of salt. I cook from scratch most of the time, don't use it in anything, apart from maybe the occasional stock cube. I was brought up to salt food and my dad still uses mega amounts, but over the years I have simply lost my taste for it.
It is a problem when I stay with friends in Turkey, though.... they put salt in (and on) EVERYTHINGI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
