Econonomy 7 hot water cylinder

We have no gas - just storage heaters. We shall be moving our bathroom which will mean our hot water cylinder will be moving. I would say its about 30 odd years old and think it needs replacing really.
What sort of tank/cylinder (I think they are the same thing?) should I be looking for
We are a family of 5. The tank at the moment gives us enough hot water although not sure what size it is - l(ooks normal to me - sits in the hot press and has shelves above it. ) We do however have an electric shower which really we would be looking to change and get one that runs off the water tank.
Can anyone help with what I am looking for
and how much it should be?

for a family of 5 you should look at a mains pressure unvented direct cylinder of 180 litres if mainly showers are had or 210-250 litres if a lot of baths. However you need to check the cold water mains entering the building, the size and pressure of the main will determine whether this type of cylinder / DHW tank can be used. with economy 7 you would want to take advantage of the cheaper leccy so go for the biggest you can, and make sure it has two immersion elements one at bottom, one near to top. There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

OH....Yes.....Good scrap!!....but the plumber will probably nick it, by the way you will have to inform the local authority if you install an Unvented cylinder, your plumber will do this on your behalf.
