I worked for a national electronics retailler for a while and part of the contract of employment is that you will be searched, have your bags searched and can have your car searched.
At first I thought it was ridiculous, but then when things went missing and the finger of blame pointed at all staff, i was glad that the policy helped catch the culprit so that the rest of us were not considered to be potential thieves.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -
All those searches, why don't they just employ trustworthy people?0

Just because people get searched doesn't make them untrustworthy. It's common practice in retail to have random searches of staff. Stops anyone dipping their hand in the till if they know these searches are going to take place.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Last time I ordered something online from Wilkinsons I ddin't print off my receipt because my printer was out of ink. I just told them the item and my name and it was handed over with no problem. So, in addition to the above entirely feasible scenario, is the one where you told someone about your bargain and they went in and claimed it.
I would agree with this as the same thing happened to me, we could not print out the order.
I explained this, half expecting she would say she needed proof of my order, but I just told her what I'd ordered, she passed the item over.
No checking of name, no order number given, no reciept, no signiature. I thought at the time that it didnt seem very secure, but it was the first time I had ordered online from Wilkos, so didnt know if it was right or not.
I wonder if perhaps another customer had ordered the same item as you, they collected, but it was ticked off as your collection? Might be worth asking if there is an outstanding order for the same item in someone elses name.
Over the christmas period they must have been dealing with so many orders, a mixup like that could easily be possible.
Hope you get it sorted out though, Wilkos are usually pretty good with refunds etc.0 -
Who on earth would want to steal something from Wilkinson? It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

I worked for one large retailer, and there was loads of money going from tills and i knew that the security guard suspected me of stealing and he kept watching me. Anyway they were searching random till staff and i was asked to go to be searched next and i saw the look of joy on the guards face, as he has obviously told the manager that i had cash on me!
Imagine his disappointment when i had nothing on me! -
I have no problem with searches, i didnt care if they did them every day - i had nothing to hide!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I'd have nothing to hide in that situation either but I don't think I'd consent to a manager going through the contents of my car.
I work in retail and surely if you have had your pockets, bags etc. checked then there can be little chance of getting something to your car undetected (unless it's something really tiny you could hide in the waistband of your trousers/skirt etc.)
I have beem searched frequently and have never had any objection, but this seems a bit much for the average shopworker.
OP: chances are that this is some sort of admin error rather than anything more sinister. I've never ordered anything online at Wilkinsons but it what you say is true with receipts being shown etc, chances are that they make some sort of a mark/stamp on the receipt so enquire whether or not this is the case and tell them how yours is clean. That way, whatever has happened, you should be able to prove that you have not received the item in question. Good luck! Please call me 'Pickle'

Staff may use their break time to nip out to their car, or if there's no clocking in/out system, disappear from the shop floor for a couple of minutes.
Flaw in that system: last place I worked we had to get our bags checked every time we left the shop, inc. breaks. Please call me 'Pickle'
