Wilkinson's Collect in Store - Theft??

Options
Placed an order with Wilkinsons online and received an email saying my order would be delivered to store after the 21st December. The monies were taken from my bank account the same day.

Rang them on the 31st December to see if they'd received my order and i was told no.

Rang customer services on 4th January after the Christmas break and was assured my order had been sent to the store. I asked how long it would be kept and i was told indefinitely as it had been paid for.

Due to the bad weather i've been unable to go to the store to collect, today was my earliest opportunity.

Guess what no order there. It had been marked down as collected?

I cant believe that a random member of the public went to the store and asked for my order. You have to show a receipt for what you ordered. I think a member of staff has stolen it and written collected in the book.

I am so furious:eek:

I am no expert on the particular Wilkinson's you are dealing with, but the one I worked at had bag searches at the end of your shift, random locker searches and random car searches. They also had cameras all over, sometimes concealed from staff.
If I were you I would contact Head Office and explain what has happened and hope it gets dealt with in a serious manner as dishonest staff (at any level) was something that was not
tolerated lightly when I worked there.

  • I work at Wilkinson and as per the above post, we are searched at the end of every shift before we can leave the building. Our bags and pockets are checked and we have to produce our receipts for any items we have on us. We also have random locker searches and the building is covered with cameras. All searches are carried out infront of the cameras and security is taken very seriously. I would therefore be surprised if a staff member had stolen your goods. Maybe there has been an error somewhere along the line, perhaps some paperwork or something got mixed up.
  • This is slightly off topic but still - random searches of your car!? Surely this must be by the consent of the employee only, no way could a company actually force you to open up your own car parked outside and go through it!

Of course it was with the consent of the employee, same as bag and pocket searches, my son has had his car searched as he works for a large distribution company.
I have never had any objection to being searched, I have nothing to hide.
In our local B&Q the staff sign out at the exit door where customers go out and are searched in full view of customers. These things you have to accept when you work in retail, if you don't like it don't you work there.

  • Yeah I've worked in retail and I know that bag searches are normal procedure - an employee helping themselves to goods will hide things in their bags to get them out of the store - but somehow searching people's private cars, snooping around the glovebox and boot seems a step too far in my opinion.

I'd have nothing to hide in that situation either but I don't think I'd consent to a manager going through the contents of my car.

Its not a new thing, when i worked at WD & HO wills (cigarette factory) in Newcastle in the late 60s, there were random searches. They were not only looking for cigs but the coupons that used to be in the boxes.
People did use to steal them, and i cant repeat where they used to hide them.
But if anyone was caught with even one cig on them they were obviously sacked and prosecuted. No exceptions.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

But the car park was directly behind the store, easily accessed by staff through the rear doors. I doubt if they would have done it if the car park could not be accessed so easily.
My son parks in the car park where he works and has to enter and exit through security barriers and they have random car checks also.
Anyhow, this is going off topic, I just wanted the op to know how serious Wilkinsons take the honesty of their staff. Any retailer that has any doubts about the honesty of a member of staff are usually aware and are usually observing them.

The staff suchs are all well and good, however if there has been wrong doings it could have been done by the member of staff responsible for the collections. They simply notice there is an unclaimed item that has been there a while. They tell their friend to come in to claim it and hand it over to them

I've only ordered online from Wilkinson twice. Once for delivery to store, once delivery to my new flat. Dissatisfied on both occassions.

The store delivery wasn't there when they said it would be. When I went back, it took over 25 minutes for them to "find" my order. Didn't have to sign or show the card (like Tesco make you do).

The delivery order was due the day I was moving in, so I entered in the box on their site for them to call me to let me know the delivery time. Never received any call. On arrival, the delivery people weren't helpful and refused to carry the item upstairs (was on third floor). I protested with "the contract is to delivery to Flat 4, if you don't do that them I want an immediate refund". They eventually agreed to carry it upstairs.

Last time I ordered something online from Wilkinsons I ddin't print off my receipt because my printer was out of ink. I just told them the item and my name and it was handed over with no problem. So, in addition to the above entirely feasible scenario, is the one where you told someone about your bargain and they went in and claimed it.
