Anyway, our kid charges just over 2 euro a pint - and its a good pint, pop in and say hello ;o)
/QUOTE]
We're going back in September so we might just do that. Does your brother show the Premier League and Champions League mathes as well as the rugby?
indeed he does - as long as they dont clash with a major Rugby Union or League match.
You have to try his chips - hand cut from Cyprus potatoes. mmm can taste them now!0 -

Great, we'll defintely go there in September. We're thinking of moving to Cyprus in a few years time anyway, so it would be great to speak to someone who's already done it.0 -

You might find some of the Cyprus forums useful;
Eastern Cyprus - dedicated to the eastern end of the island, as the name suggests:

Cyprus Living - Paphos based:

Expat forum for those living in, or thinking of moving to, Cyprus:

Expat Blogs, both discussions and blogs:

That should be enough to give you food for thought!
There is also an article in today's Telegraph about how Cyprus enjoys 326 days of sun a year. As I sit here wearing 3 layers of clothing, wondering if it'll ever be dry enough to do laundry again in this lifetime, it made me chuckle ;-)

Don't underestimate the Cypriot winters. They are warmer than the UK but they are still cold and wet.

Cyprus (and it's definitely Paphos folks not PATHOS!) was always quite expensive when they had the Cyprus pound.
Oh thank you for that. Hearing Pathos is like fingernails down a blackboard. Paphos or Pafos by all means, and extra points if you have some idea of why the change took place. But Pathos? Please, no.My brother runs a bar in Paphos (see my locaiton on the left) and during CY£ to Euro conversion, he had to show prices in both and they had to be an exact conversion, at the rate set by government.
This was inspected regularly by the local tourist office.
The dual pricing lasted for 18 months or more, from before the switch to the Euro and for a good period after. The CTO (Cyprus Tourism people) did a huge amount of work on monitoring prices. That said, things have felt more expensive in the last couple of years; but people with sterling income are always going to feel the pinch when sterling weakens. The Elysium looks very nice - we stayed next door at the Kefalos Beach. It's true they aren't the best beaches in the world, but the one at Coral Bay is nice.
if you aren't into clubbing I would look at somewhere like one of the other Islands - places like Kephalonia will have far superior beaches.
There are some lovely beaches. Macronissos, next to the Dome hotel at the eastern end of the island, is particularly nice.

that's not actually true.....My brother runs a bar in Paphos (see my locaiton on the left) and during CY£ to Euro conversion, he had to show prices in both and they had to be an exact conversion, at the rate set by government.....
I'm very pleased to hear about your brothers place
However, my last visit to the area was Rhodes (Lindos), where the bars were charging 5 euros for a pint. I asked for a half for my missus, and was told... "er...5 euros"!
So, yes, perhaps your brother is the exception not the rule, but I stand by my point that the eurozone is much more expensive than it was before the change (irrespective of exchange rates).Marching On Together

I got multi quoted - woo hoo! Thanks Mands!
@BritRael - Greece is a whole different kettle of fish - they are the worst offenders in Europe I think.
I remember it being 300 drachs for a big beer in about 1996 (about 70p?)
Now, depending on where you drink it is really expensive.
And where you drink makes a big difference. My brothers place is on a street two blocks back from the main "Bar Street" in Paphos. We had a few nights out there and, yes, expect to pay 3.50 Euro for a small bottle of Carlsberg.
The annoying thing I found out was that they do have two seperate price lists - one for locals and workers, and one for tourists. My brother lost a few regulars when he stopped doing this, as he didn't agree with it.
SuzieSue - tell him his little brother sent you - I'm on commission. NOT!0 -

Yup, I agree Geoggy.
I went to Corfu in '83 and the whole island was packed. Very cheap, which is why the Greek islands were so popular. I went back to corfu about 4 years ago and the place was deserted. I went to this restaurant that was jam packed the last time that I went there and spoke to the owner about it (me and my OH were the only two customers) and he reckoned it was because of the "cheap European places - like Prague". I just nodded but was thinking "er...no, it's because this place is such a f***in rip off and I wont be coming back"!!
).
Pity, because I love the islandsMarching On Together

I was on Corfu last summer - some simple sums....
1996 - pint of beer 70p
2009 - Corfu last year, pint was about 3.50 Euro - so nearly 3 quid.
Thats 429% inflation in 13 years, or 33% per year.
I know currency fluctuations are in there, but come on !!!0
