We normally shop at Tesco but went to an Asda that has only just opened and found a lot of their opening offers met most of our needs so things that would normally be approx £2 were in fact £1 so on the non perishable items we bought two so our next shop will be cheaper.

Up until then have normally found Tesco to be cheaper, plus the missus worked at our local tesco so knew when, why and how the reductions worked so we knew the best time to go in and grab the deals.

I got a bit confused today in my bid to save money on my grocery shop - I had the tesco site open and the Asda site open, I had my discount codes for both and different things were cheaper on each site so I ended up doing a shop with both, using the best discount codes for both and they are both being delivered between 11 - 1 tomorrow, It'll be sods law that they both arrive at the same time and I'll look a total shopping addict with vans everywhere!

How strange. We always go to tesco, asda and morrisons (we like different items from different stores) but Asda is always the cheapest for our main items

Item for item, I find Asda is cheaper, though I very rarely use Tesco, as our local one closed down a few years ago, and is now a Home Bargains, so a trip to Tesco means a trip into town, whereas Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda are all closer.

The only problem with Asda is, as other posters have mentioned, they don't do many BOGOF's so my overall bill is higher when I do a big shop.

Whereas at Morrisons, I can do an entire shop where every item is a BOGOF.

The only big supermarket in my nearest town in Sainsburys and clearly the only reason it can stay in business at all is because it has zero competition.

Fruit and veg in particular are like gold dust, no matter what time of the day or night you go into that shop the produce section is empty. And I don't even mean empty like "oh, the selection is a bit poor today" I mean totally empty shelves with the price tags turned back to front so that you don't even know what they had been selling, or those big massive baskets that they keep potatoes and the like in turned upside down, all sending a very clear message that not only do they not have anything to sell but they won't be restocking their shelves in the near future either.

Then if you do struggle round the rest of the shop trying to get the other things you might buy during a 'big' shop, you get to the checkout to find that your trolleyfull costs you about £20 more than it would in Tescos (but Tescos is a 20 minute drive to the next town...) and that many of the items have been priced incorrectly too, which necessitates a very long stand in a queue at customer services to complain. I hate Sainsburys with a passion.

They do have a good off license though!!

First ever job was at Asda...doing the fresh pizzas on the deli counter. Have fostered a feeling of hatred towards them ever since.

Even now when I pass Asda lorries on the motorway, I can't help giving them a two fingered salute. I can't help it. It's a kind of obsessive compulsive thing.

But I do it to the Asda advert theme tune, so thats ok.

I used to shop with tesco on line but got sick of them getting it wrong. so one weekend i got up early (7am) and went to my local Asda i was absolutely gobsmaked by the amount of extra food i got for the money i normally spend being the first shop at a strange supremarket i expected the bill to be rather large but it came to now more than i normally spend at tesco and the quality of the fruit and veg are far superior. I must admit i do not like asda on line as you miss out on so many offers. :-)

Tesco's for me and they're doing 5p off a litre of fuel for every £50 spent in store.
