Tescos vs Asda

Hi all,

Remembering the recent thread regarding Tescos and Asda I thought I'd have a little experiment (Oh the fun I have on a Saturday night!) I did my weekly shop on both websites, to compare the cost.

Result (food and cleaning stuffs for a week, plus a months worth of wine :o )

Asda - £63.64 (including 3 quid off the delivery charge)
Tesco - £61.52 (including hideously expensive 4.99 delivery charge and not including savings from multisave items).

Was quite surprised, didn't think it would come in that way round, and bearing in mind how good the Tescos club card stuff is I'll be sticking with them from now on (although will be keeping a weather eye out for deals on delivery!)
Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23  All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit). DFD - Aug 2014
Proud to be dealing with my debts
Goal of the month - £500 on groceries for family of 5 - Apr 2011 - £620! :( May - £454.85 so far.

ASDA have very few BOGOF's and don't seem to know what the reduced section is for. Tesco's are definately cheaper.

I think Asda seems a bit cheaper, but I can't be 100% sure. I do know that their store brand stuff is almost always crap.

I live within walking distance of Tesco, Asda, and Sainsbury's. I enjoy Sainsbury's most, and I dislike Tesco most.

Since my husband started working at Asda a few weeks ago, we'll soon be getting a 10% discount card, which will make them the obvious choice value.

Wow - thats a surprising result for me, Brassic - I would have assumed that Asda were cheapest...!!

I am a regular Asda shopper, so I think I will have to be a little more organised and check out my nearest branch of Tesco...

Thanks for this post - I guess I am a little complacent in my choice of supermarket :o. This has really made me think...!

I think they very from week to week depending on their special offers. I have just been to morrisons and they have loads of offers. They change weekly so it does depend on what you like to buy.

I'm not surprised, and I find ASDA food quality is not very good.

Asda is MILESSSSSSSSSS better than tesco, better qualitiy better value better price.

Although I will not buy from asdas website, off the top of my head, teabags are 3p dearer, rich tea biscuts are 2p dearer (just little prices like that thst soon add up)

But when I go to tesco, a multipack of twix are 68p dearer  satsumas are double the price than at asda   cheese is 13p dearer for mild chedder  youghurts 48p dearer. The prices speak for themselves.

Plus neither me or my kids will touch food from Mr. Ts its foul, the beans are hard, the precooked meat is substandard, I refuse to shop there unless I have too
