Family Photograph

Hi all
We are having a family photograph taken soon (as a suprise for my mum) & don't really know what to wear. It will be me (22) my sister (18) my sister (3) and my brother (2). The photos will be taken with a white background and we want them to be quite casual. We're all quite pale skinned so not sure what colours to wear. Should we all match? Or would that be weird?
Any experiences of this would be great - if you can post your family pics even better!
Thanks in advance x

My cousins had a bit of a theme going on when they just got theirs done, there were my 2 adult cousins and their 3 kids. They wore red, blue and white.
One had a white t-shirt blue jeans one had a red one on had a red and white stripey top and blue jeans. That kind of thing, they looked really good they also had a white background.
But ultimatly its up to you

I suggest you wear something comfotable and flattering and that you don't mind lying on the floor in, most family portraits these days are very laid back and piles of children lying on the floor seems to be the in thing!0

Most studios now go for a reportage approach. Look on the VENTURE website for ideas of how to dress and how they may ask you to participate in the session. My avatar is of one i had done a couple of months ago. I would not use Venture tho as they are con merchants but you will get some excellent ideas from the site. Another thing to remember is you want the pics how you want them, fair enough let the photographer throw in some input but if its not what you want dont go along with it for the sake of it to keep them happy, its your money at the end of the day.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Thanks for the responses so far.
I do love the venture photos but a friend had some done and ended up paying £2500 for phone large photo and a small album!!! They said they felt so pressured into it that they just had to get them. The photographer is actually a friend of my mums so we're getting "mates rates" anyway.
Gorgeous photo Stef - what colours were you all wearing this is what im most worried about due to our age differences it's difficult to see what would suit us all.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Denims, new white t-shirts etc all look great in photographs. Best of all, enjoy yourself. That is how you get the best photo!0

I thought white, but then wasn't sure if white on a white background would go? I need to practice my smile, it usually looks so false in photos!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

We all wore black tee shirts and dark denim jeans, they say dark colours work best against the white back ground.
Venture ripped us off big time, i had a voucher that entitled us to a photo session and a free 7x5 pic with the kids getting a usb wrist band free with a pic on it which they could use on facebook etc. When it came to viewing we were told the voucher for the free pic had finished but we could use its value against any of their products even with the voucher the cheapest pic which happened to be 7x5 was £160!! Or we could get a 10x8 framed pic and 2 7x5 prints for £500. I said i wanted to think about it and contacted trading standards who said they were ripping us off and not to go near them with a barge pole, hence using a local company for the pic in avatar which cost a grand total of £20.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I would keep colours simple. You could stick to white tops and blue jeans for you and your older sister, and pastels or pale colours for your younger brother and sister. Pastel colours also go well with denim, so however you end up being 'arranged' you should all match nicely without being too bland.
I am also very pale, and whites (not cream or off-white) and pale colours look particularly good in photos. Denim and white are classic, and the younger ones will just look cute in pale kids' colours anyway - and add a splash of colour to the picture without being too much.

KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

You wont need to practice smile as they have you running round and telling jokes so the smiles look natural.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Do you keep your shoes on in these types of photos? I just don't want to worry about what shoes if we're going to be barefoot - it's going to be hard enough as it is to sneak out the babies clothes without my mum noticing!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0
