Leftover mash

Options
I have made far to much mash potatoes this evening. It taste lovely and I'm well chuffed being my first attempt on doing mash. But I don't know what to do with whats left over. Can it be saved and reheated or turned into a different dish?
I can't use it for shepard's pie coz that's what I did today.
Any suggestions would be grateful :)

You can freeze it, or make fish cakes using tinned tuna or salmon

    add anything you like,
cheese & sundried tomatoes, chicken & herbs, sweetcorn & herbs, anything that works together, mix them with the potato, make balls or little pancake shapes and fry in hot oil, they can be spicy or veggie to go with a meal, or full of meat etc as the main event.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Great advise. I think I try this with my kids tomorrow... sounds fun and easy with a bit of cheese and perhaps fried onion and sweetcorn.

    Hi greenpixey,

I always make potato bread with left over mashed potato...it's delicious with bacon and eggs.

There's an older thread here with hints and tips on freezing mashed potatoes.

Fry it up so that it's nice and brown and crispy on the bottom and give it to the kids for breakfast.Especially good fried in bacon fat.Not very good if you're trying to lose weight though:)

the Scots' equivelant is called Tattie Scones & no self-respecting breakfast North of the border is without them, well worth trying out. my kids love them just on their own, hot from the pan :)
