The fact that you have 2 small children under 5 will be taken into account because you are a risk to them so make sure you make dla aware of this fact

I would disagree with this. DLA is about the claimants care/ mobility needs, not their impact on others.

You mention you get a warning of the grand mal seizures? how long before the seizure does it happen?

Do you have the seizures at night?

The fact that you have 2 small children under 5 will be taken into account because you are a risk to them so make sure you make dla aware of this fact

i can get a taste of metal in my mouth up to 30 seconds before an attack though this is not everytime it can enable me to make sure i can sit on the floor at other times i have injured myself i also am quite out of it after an attack and it takes me anything from 20mins to 24 hours to come round

i have had a few atacks over night but they are not as common for me

the worse risk is the sbence seizures for me they are like sleep walking for instance last week i was in asda and i was shopping with my husband and 2 babies i had an absence during this and forgot my husband was with me and left with only one if my babies too!

i also have during absences left the cooker on and bathed the children twice i have even left them alone upstaiurs while i was on the computer luckly myhusband is in but he just see's me in a dream world walking off i can also become very angry and agressive which is upsetting for all of us

OP, DLA is nothing to do with work, if you cannot work due to illness you should be claiming ESA, are you doing this?

As for DLA with epilepsy, it's usually a lower/middle care with lower mobility award but it does depend on the individual circumstances, how often you require the care, if you get warnings before the seizures, if you hurt yourself enough to need medical attention while having a seizure etc.

i was off work after this all started in april and returned in nov i've now been off sice the 27th dec again and my gp has said i can not work at the moment

can i ask what esa is??

Don't know if this helps, but my daughter has got DLA for epilepsy, HR care, LR mobility.

You can only be truthful on the form about how you are affected by your seizures. The to need to know what types you are getting and how often, the "prior warning" is also an important part. Are you getting any respite from your seizures ? Do they know what has caused your epilepsy ?

You need to detail your absence seizures very carefully - do you know how long they last ? To some extent you are at more risk through your absences than your other seizures. Can you ask your husband to write down what he witnesses when you have an absence and put this as part of your reply. If you are having numerous absences, then you are not safe to be left alone whilst doing general household duties such as cooking or even supervising the children at bathtimes.

Hope the meds start kicking in soon to make things better. What meds are you on ? Have they been changed at all recently ?

Normally what you say is correct but not in the case of people suffering from Epilepsy.

thank you so much for all your replys i filled the form our comparing both my best and worse days but i thought it would be best to put down both!!

i have since a fall down the stairs at aged 18 had pain every day in my back they put this down to an aggrevation of the spine and the spina bifida i take pain relief every day but have been determend for this never to affect me other than having a few bad days a month i do ok on pain meds and i get stiff during the night and find it hard to get out of bed but my hubby helps me

You say here you have only a few bad days a month, but on the form you say you need help twice a night every night? Things like this that don't add up aren't going to help you with your claim, you need to make sure your answers are consistent.

Also, if your husband helps you to get out of bed in the night they're likely to want to find out if there are any aids you could use- rail on the side of the bed etc- which would mean that you didn't need night-time care.

A 30 second warning is not a useful amount of time really and you must make sure you tell DLA that you dont always get a warning.

How often are the seizures at night and what happens

If the absence ones mean you forget people/things, please put it down! As this is quite a severe one, and may mean if you have one you might cross the road and get knocked down, or fall down stairs etc.
