Hi Di
Just called next and they said they sent letter however they gave me details over the phone of the insurers. Have you heard of First Assist Insurance?
so do i explain that i have had PPI with Next , not sure what to put as it was next that sold it to me not first assist insurance. Sorry i am rubbish at stuff like this
Hi there
You basically treat this the same as you write to next on reclaiming, if they write back and say no, then go to the financial ombudsman service (FOS) and ask if they can investigate this for you, they are trying to make these responsible as well, however, it may help as well if you had something in a document policy with the insurers details on them, in case you have to submit to the FOS, so they have something to go by.;)

Hi Di, When i got home i from work i had received a letter from Next stating the following. They write that they are sorry that i remain unhappy with the reply to there letter. That as previously advised during 1988 to 1993 they operated an opt-out scheme( my PPI was taken out 1992 when i applied for a card). In 1993 this was changed so that customers would need to request for payment prortection policy to be taken out of there account. During those five years customers were asked if they wanted to opt-out of the policy on their statements ( i certainly do not remember this & would have done of given the chance). After the policy changed the amount of premiums paid was visible on every statement and at any time the policy could be cancelled.
They regret that there there decision to not offer a refund of monies that i have paid is unchanged. They understand that i have requested the details of the insurance company but that they need to advise that First Assist is only able to discuss a claim on the policy and not how it was taken out. They note my comments that i will continue to pursue my complaint with the financial ombudsman service, but that they would like to clarify that my complaint relates to the implementation of Payment Protection on my account and they therefore believe that this matter is not one that the financial ombudsman service can consider. Are they correct on all this, i feel really disheartened now, if they are right about the obt out scheme then i dont stand a chance do i? i really dont remember that been offered to me, I have always been aware that the PPI was shown on my statement, but again have always thought that i had to pay it.0 -
HI Di , I also just googled Next PPI Opt out scheme and it came up with loads of people on the consumer action group forum in exactly the same situation as me and getting nowhere! most people had been paying PPI as long as i have with next too. :mad:0

my next statements all seem to have a 'service' charge which varies dependent on the amount owing. Would this be the PPI in disguise?
thanks!0 -

Hi katien, I am in the same cycle with GE/Santander on a D PErks storecard from early nineties too, application completed by store assistant and only signed by me.
I called FOS and explained what Santander were telling me, they confirmed it and also checked the insurers I thought were involved, these weren't covered by GISC.
I have since rung for actual insurer name and address details and will be calling FOS back as they gave me a reference number as they will help if the insurers are covered.
I have applied for SAR to get all my paperwork back and sent 2nd letter repeating my claim, SAR 40 days over by a week now.
Will keep you updated on any happenings.
Santander/GE sicken me, because they were not regulated they are able to ride roughshod, their letters take the proverbial.
Keep at them, someone has to win sometime. It could be you. :beer:BOS - 2 x Loan PPI 14/11/09

Hi Katien
Sorry to have missed your post here.
Some good advice given to you though from these lovely lot.;)
The FOS are trying to make the insurers/underwriters responsible, so what you were told by them was probs just a normal reaction, so bear with it.
I know its very frustrating.
I received a letter from the FOS to tell me mine will be passed on for adjudication against the insurer just recently.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

thanks everyone your great! made me feel alot better. to Makela2009 the "service Charge is actually the interest. On my next statement it shows clearly written PPI.
Thanks Goaliesmum & di3004, i will keep at it, i felt abit frustrated when i saw all these other people with Next PPI who were getting nowhere and Next really digging there heals in! i am still waiting for a repsonse from the insurers, , i expect it will be the same response as next tho. Also what does it mean when the insurers are not covered by GISC does this make a difference? and what is SAR. many thanks again0 -

Hi hun
Your very welcome.;)
I take it the insurers would or should have been covered, so you should be okay here, although it may take a little while if passed on to the FOS, it may well be worth it though.
A SAR is short for Subject Access Request, this is where they send you all the information they hold on you, mostly going back 5/6 years but some have been lucky to receive info going back to even earlier years.
But there is a payment of £10 required for this request, payable by cheque or postal order, and they have 40 calendar days to comply.
If you do end up requesting for one of these, then personally I would post by using recorded delivery, you can then track this down on the Royal mail website and keep an eye on those 40 days they have.
Template of SAR here:

Hope this helps........:D and good luck, we look forward to hearing from you.
