New Year New Massive Job Cuts

You mean they don't realise that we have been through the worst recession since the 30's
or that all the jobs will be relocated?
Been through?
As far as I can ascertain. Many companies have reduced working hours, cut overtime rather cut jobs so far. The employees at Bosch were under a 90 day consultancy period. There'll be plenty employees in the same position with an axe hanging over them.
There was over capacity in the motor industry prior to the recession. With the end of the scrappage scheme. Hard to see demand for components even staying at the same levels as now.
Many companies are consolidating sites. Not all abroad I should add. Companies are contracting not expanding at the moment.
A lot of people , thanks to QE and low interest rates, haven't even felt the effects of the recession. Comparison's with the 30's are therefore meaningless. Particularly as we have a welfare benefits system that didn't exist back then.0 -

Relentless HPI, debt and quantitive easing!!!!!!
Hamish does make some intelligent posts but that last comment is just blatant stupidity and ignorance.0 -

Manufacturing makes up only 16% of UK economy, and has been declining for the last couple of decades.
Hamish is right, we can't rely on manufacturing to prop up economy. You want to compete with countries where people work for 50p a day?0 -

So what replaces 16% of the economy and creates jobs for those who have lost them in other industries?
We can't rely on wealth gained from owning property, as no one will a job to earn the money to buy one in your scenario. :rolleyes:0 -

Your reality is entombed in a narrow tunnel as you will see - remember my words.
Just as thrugelmir's of the 1970s and 80s told us we would fall by the way side as Japan, Taiwan, HK and S Korea took over.
WHEN OH WHEN WILL YOU OPEN YOUR MINDS?
We will recover and be strong - just for once allow that thought into your processing.
This is'nt blind optimism, I'm a pessimist by nature.
Sadly, and I say this not with malice, you will go to grave with this mindset unless you learn to see thing objectively.
Open your mind to the true reality not that which your subconscious is driving - !!!!!! take control and stop being robotised:rotfl:0 -

C'mon, stretttttttttttttch that brain.
Dont be so biased.
I could give you a huge list of growth areas, but it's not my job to - open your eyes.0 -

However, we will regain manufacturing along with the Germans, Swedes and others, despite some of the plant we own being located abroad.
There is a renassiance going on. I see it in the high tech music production devices arena and many others.
Even the Japanese are lossing thier potence in some areas to the old world.
The chinese bolt things together, but they simply have not got the imagination we have. Having high speed hover trains is not a sign of anything.
Last night I watched a programme which demonstrated computer programmes 'evolving' all by themselves to create unseen and incredible images. Cambridge UK.0 -
The modern version of 'taking in each other's washing', of course. Selling houses to each other!ravenfield wrote: »So what should we rely on?0
