People still aren't waking up to the reality of the situation this country faces.Plant director Adam Willmott said move was one of "pure economics" after a feasibility study had concluded the switch to Hungary, where labour costs were 65% of those at the plant, was necessary to gain the benefit of economies of scale.0

You mean they don't realise that we have been through the worst recession since the 30's
or that all the jobs will be relocated? 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. OMG! I've just been in a coma and woke up to reports that we've had a credit crunch, house price crash and recession.
Everything was going so well prior to hitting my head in 2007! Where did it all go wrong???"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I know someone directly affected by these losses, it's not good news for him, his colleagues and South Wales

There is also a considerable knock on effect, with suppliers etc.
Not good at all...0 -
Xmas is over, large companies will probably be lining up to cut some jobs and now not be branded mean scrouges by the media. There was a firm earlier in the week cutting jobs by video podcast or something as well.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

900 to go at Bosch
Still a very, very, very long way from the numbers losing jobs this time last year.
And it doesn't seem to be recession related, just a company offshoring manufacturing jobs to get cheaper labour overseas.
And the reality is, no matter how cheap house prices may or may not be in the UK, there will always be somewhere else with cheaper labour.
Yet another reminder of why it's stupid to rely on manufacturing as an economy.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

But then I have heard Makita are moving production from China and Japan to the UK.

With the £ as it is you may find many jobs being created by overseas firms.
Some will come some will go.0 -

So what should we rely on?0 -

I thought the 45% drop in demand for one of their key products presumably the result of the reccession had a big impact.
That is a massive drop off, it could be down to a competitor providing a better product to the market place but if this is down to true demand loss then that is worrying. Alternators are widely used in other finished/final products so could this be the first signs of other larger manufacturing losses.
I'm guessing the slump in car sales early last year had a big impact but surely by now they must be seeing the signs that demand is picking up ?0
