hi, i have a cracked bumper on my renault clio T reg car.
I bought a second hand bumper as i have my mot test soon, to replace the cracked one.
Garage said £50 to fit it on.

Im wondering, can i do it myself?
Or do i need specialist tools?

The guy who sold it me said something about it just having clips or something.

any advice?

one headlamp is pushed in a little, but not broken i think. It would just need pulling back out a bit.

shall i just let experts deal with it?

thanks.

Are you confident that you can do it?
If so google clio forums and visit those forums where you may find a good how to on fitting and removal which would really help.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • confident? no of course not, thats why im asking here.

    ok thanks.
  • bound to be a few screws and a couple of bolts. Pay £15 for a haynes manual. That'll tell you step by step.
But then you need tools. Halfords do a great socket set for £200 that they reduce to £100 every now and again. OK, it's £100 but you pay £115 now, it's really only costing you £65 and you'll have tools and a manual to save you even more money in the future.

4 years ago I was in a similar situation with a Fiat Brava. I was quoted £350 for a replacement. Luckily I spotted a bumper on ebay...and even more luckily it was from a Brava of the same colour. £46 and 2-3 hours work with a standard socket set and the car was perfect again. I'd go for it! There was only a dozen or so bolts to deal with!

I still smile when I remember how it was delivered. Wrapped very tightly in corrugated cardboard and yards of sellotape but still quite obviously a car bumper. Acme parcels comes to mind! Saved me £300!

4 years later it still looks good!

The headlamp will require re-alignment to pass an MOT unless you are very lucky.
  • the mot and full service is next week.

so if i can fit the bumper on myself, they will have to make sure its all ok to pass it anyway.
  • Is a cracked bumper a MOT fail?

yes, well, my bumper is cracked fully pretty much.
all car experts ive asked, said it def will fail mot.
i guess its a safety protection thing.
  • might be an idea for you do you have a college near you that have car body repair courses if so might be an idea to pop along and see the lecturer takeing the course and ask him if he'll accept your car as a project for the students on repainting and replacing the bumper and repair the lamp and how much will it cost.?
and all according whether youd mind the students touching the car. we all need to learn, and im sure the lecturer wouldnt send it out looking stupid.

Except the MOT is next week.

Worth a try in general though.
