you are talking about diffrent things, Lady K is talking about the severe disability premium (SDP) which you get if you claim middle rate care DLA and NEH is talking about a now defunct benefit (SDA) given to people who were sick and didnt have enough stamp to claim IB.

I am no longer on sda they have taken it off since she moved in and I doubt it will be put back on again because it seems that unless the 2nd person is disabled themselves you lose your sda even if the person is moving in to help with your care needs. If they are disabled as well they say you are technically living alone so can keep it

Lady K mentioned SDA, i assumed that was severe disablement allowance as that's what i call mine, did I get it wrong? can't find the shrug smiley....

Its Lady K that made the mistake, if you live alone and claim middle/high rate DLA you can claim a IS premium, Severe Diasability Premium but if someone moves in with you you lose it unless they also claim DLA.

I thought they were both the same thing but people called them different names, it must be the premium one that I had then. Seems a bit unfair to lose it if they are helping with your care though
    Thanx

    Ahh ok sorry...:o

Severe Disablement allowance was for anyone who hadn't paid enough NI and was an alternative to Income Support or Incapacity Benefit-discontinued in 2001 though for exisiting claimants they have been kept on it...

You are still gaining a benefit though, no none dependant reduction in your housing benefit.

Yes I know that is a good thing, no council tax charge and no affect on housing benefit. To be honest I'm grateful I get the DLA as I know how much of a struggle and stress it is to get and a lot of people who need it don't get it. I am totally dreading my renewal coming up at the end of this year, it makes me ill just thinking about it
    Thanx

Lady K you can't have the severe disability premium if anyone lives with you or if someone claims carers allowance for you.
