Will the LHA weekly rates also be increasing this year?
  • The LHA rates are reviewed every month, depending on if the general level of rents increase or decrease in your local town. Your LHA rate will stay the same for 12 months after you apply, thereafter it is updated to the current rates every year on the anniversery of your claim. Also if you are getting any LHA over your rent (in rare cases), this is due to end in the coming months (1st April rings a bell but I may be wrong), and the maximum paid would be LHA rate, or your exact rent, whichever is the lowest...

Just a word of warning for anyone on LHA / CTB or HB. Although the rates don't increase until 12 April 2010, it is a standing regulation that we can update claims wef 1st April. This may mean that your payments of Incapacity benefit for example may not increase for a couple of weeks but we have to amend your claim from 1st April
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

The LHA rate increases every month??

Because ive checked my council's website and the LHA website a few times over the last few months, but my area's rate has remained the same.
