My daughter got a D in maths so we paid for a resit. Can`t remember how much it was exactly but think it was around £12.

Wouldn't your parents remember? Also were the doubling of exams the choice of you/your parents or the school? It looks like I'm a school year older than you and didn't pay, so if it was the school's choice then there must have been discrepancies between different schools at that time.
I remember being advised to sit both cse and o level for some exams. I have ended up with level 1 cse and c o'level in some subjects. It was science, history were there was some doubt that I would get my o'level. I think school advised but untimately it was my parents/my choice.
