Mercers - grrrrrrr

So we had a letter today from Barclays Partner Finance, who the debt was with before it was passed to Mercers, in response to the complaint letter.

It starts of well, saying they will pass the complaint to a dedicated complaints person, and that will be in touch within 15 days etc etc.

BUT, the third paragraph has left me incensed, totally, the letter was of course complaining about them constantly chasing us for money right? So the letter from them includes the paragraph: Whilst we sympathise with your situation we must insist that you continue to pay as per the terms and conditions of your agreement until we have looked into your complaint fully

How flaming stupid is that? and it isn't a standard letter either, you can tell as she has had to sign it and has had trouble with her pen.

So even when they have received the complaint, and another copy of the BR order, and the OR has been in touch with them to tell them to back off, they still have to add in, you must pay or else comments.

This has now made me more determined than anything to make them pay, grrrrrrrrr.

Will update as and when anything else happens.

Its a standard 'cover all' letter, dont let it get to you so much, its not written for you, its written for thousands of customers, its the next bit that is important, if they dont back of;)
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

Stardust, the OR has up to 8 weeks I think, and then they should stop chasing you, however, our OR sent out all the stuff end Jan/beg Feb and they are still hassling us, I have spoken to the OR about it and they have been in touch with them and told them to stop and they still haven't, some people won't unfortunately.

Deptfree, you may be lucky, if you're not and they keep chasing you then you know what to do!!

Blind, yes indeed, they better had back off is all I can say, as I won't put up with their silliness :D

Hi Doucam, if you don't mind me asking, can I ask whether you hadn't paid them for a while leading up to your BR and whether Barclays/Mercers were chasing before you went BR? I ask as Barclaycard is one of my creditors but I never defaulted paying them until 2-3 weeks before I went BR, so I don't think it had been esculated to the collections dept at the time I went BR. Barclays and Mercers sound like a nightmare, I'm just hoping that I don't get this kinda hassle.

Welshlad, dh missed 1 payment with them that's all, it hadn't been passed to Mercers as at date of BR, as of BR date they had written just one letter, and dh phoned them the day of BR and told them about BR, gave them all details, they kept writing and phoning anyway, and then passed it to Mercers, 6 weeks after BR, and despite being given the details verbally and in writing of the BR.

He phoned Mercers after the first letter and the girl looked it up on IS site and confirmed it was there, but they have still hassled him and passed it to Resolvecall who threatened to send someone round.

This is why I am cross, really cross actually, all the other creditors have not bothered, at all, yet these people have been relentless, and I don't know why, it is not as if they haven't been told about the BR, by us and the OR, we even faxed Grant Thornton who are apparantly the people who decided to set Mercers on him, yet they still carry on.

I am not going to take it lying down, or should I say I won't let dh take it lying down, it is laughable really as they won't speak to me about it either, even though he has told them they can, they refuse to, and it is me that writes the letters and so on, and it is my mobile they are phoning, they are bunch of idiots, and I am not going to stop on this, see how they like it!!

This has turned into a bit of a ranty post hasn't it? sorry!!

Don't worry, rant away, I would be the same. I was hoping you'd say they'd be chasing you for several months before hand, but it sounds similar to my situation, I just hope they don't pass mine info on to Mercer and start hassling me. I wonder if the amount someone owes correlate in anyway to them chasing? If someone only owe say just £200 would they chase them as hard as someone who owed say £10,000?

I don`t think so, my biggest creditors Citibank never bothered me at all whilst the one I owed least to, MBNA were a real pain the bum.

Agree with dojo, we owed more to Egg, and Black Horse amongst others but not heard a dicky bird from them, this one was for around 1/4 of what we owed to Egg so the amount thing doesn't follow at all I'm afraid.

There really doesn't seem to be any pattern to which debts they follow up on and which they don't.

Hope you don't get hassled welshlad.

    Argh!....I hate Mercers!....

We debated for MONTHS whether to go Bankrupt or not, felt guilty about borrowing money and not being able to pay it back BUT when Mercers started phoning us three to five times a day, every day it made the decision easier and easier with each passing phone call.

The day we went BR, we couldn't wait for the b**gers to phone so we could tell them! (they didn't for 10 days!!! unheard of!!) ...... Myself and the OH aren't like that in nature but companies like this bring it on themselves. If they had tried to help rather than just harrass things may have turned out better for everyone.

They still phone occasionally now even though they know we are bankrupt but its become a bit of a game between myself and my other half as to who can keep them on the phone longest. We also do "word of the day"....... who can drop the most inappropriate word into the ordinary conversation with whichever creditor phones.... todays is "lactation" but not managed it yet!
