refused on vodafone why though???

hi ive just been to the carphone ware house and tried to get the new iphone on vodafone, ive never been a vodafone customer before and chose the tarfiff that i wanted and went to get the contract set up

however the salesperson said that ive been declined the contract. I have never been on Vodafone and I have not got bad credit, one posibility is that the sales person said that the people that lived in my house before me may have had bad credit and its stayed on the house (ive been in my house renting fof 2 years)

i phoned Vodafone but got to speak to someone that was pretty unhelpful who just suggested that i go to a Vodafone shop to try sort it out or try again in 3 months (of which i think the result will be the same)

i had similar problem last year with vodafone when i tried getting mobile broadband but was again refused, i didnt mind too much then because i went on orange for the broardband

but now i really want to go with vodafone as their tariff seems to suit me the best

is there anything i can do

Not on electrol registrar, not lived at one place for 6 plus years, some bad credit in past....could be any reason. You can get your credit report from the experian etc. (it might show something but don't bet on it).

It will have nothing to do with bad credit from someone who lived there before. Credit Files are for you, not the house.

And? Did I suggest getting the credit file for the previous occupants (impossible as that is)....
  • so to summarise there is pretty much nothing i can do, i might try phoning vodafone again see if i could speak to someone more helpful and have it looked into, or if that doesnt work il email vodafone, im gutted i was really looking forward to getting the iphone today

I would go back to the shop where the application was declined as ask then for contact details for the relevant Vodafone department as you want to ask them for an explanation of why you have been declined.

You will most likely have to do this in writing but I seem to recall that if you ask they must give you the reason. This might enable you to target your investigation of credit history etc more accurately.

Networks can also overturn the result on appeal, subject to you proving income/means etc.

Not sure about Vodafone but it can't hurt to ask.

Another route would be obtaining the deal through a 3rd party supplier, but this will involve a further credit check and could lower your credit score further.

  • just been on the phone to vodafone talked to someone that was more helpful, he explained that vodafone use experian to calculate a credit score for you so i asked him for a the phone number for them he supplied the phone number,

then i talked to experian and he said that i would have to wait for the pin number to come through the post then i could see my credit reoprt ( i had signed up for the 1 month free credit report)

so i think its going to be a 5 working day wait for me to see what the problem is

    watch this space

Nope. Didn't say you did so keep your hair on.

What i said was that credit is on a person not an address.
  • just read my credit report i couldnt see anything that alarmed me and everything was classesd as satisfactory, however it still says that my risk profile was "poor" even though i had no unpaid bills or debts, im also on the electoral role so that isnt a problem i really cant work any of this out

i really feel that im no risk and am being unfairly treated but dont know what to do apart from ring credit expert probably on monday, im really fed up with this now all i want is a new phone on contract

    Just a suggestion....

Try getting a sim only deal with Vodafone on a 30day contract and then after a few months give them a call and speak to the retentions department who might be able to process your order for the I Phone, doing this builds up a good rapport and credit history with Vodafone.

    Might help in your situation.
