I'd eat it all! :D To be honest I've never paid any attention to how long things are in my freezer. If it looks alright and smells ok once defrosted then I'll cook it :D

P.S. My mum always told me that if food was in the freezer too long it would get freezer burn and then not to eat it. But to be fair I wou;dn't know what freezer burn looked like! :)

I used up a bag of garden peas that had lived in two freezers.

    Hi guys,

Time for an update on my MFW dairy!! Well, I am living proof that it is ok to eat stuff from a freezer that is long long past the sell by date!! Chicken and fish.....all from the freezer and all well out of date for tea this weekend!! Thanks for all who took the time to post and tell me that it would be ok!!:D

As for my shopping.......well, good and bad! I have been fantastic with my food budget - around £30 for the week!! OMG......huge improvement! I shopped today and have enough till probably Friday and it only cost me £15!! Went to M&S and bought all their reduced food at 4pm (just to add though, hubby is away working so it's just me and the kids this week so that makes a huge difference!.....they would quite happily live on sausages, pasta, ham, fruit, yoghurts....and me??.....well I just eat their leftovers!!:rotfl:)

As for the not so good shopping......hubby bought a new laptop....£450!!:eek: He's been wanting one for ages so I finally reluctantly agreed!!

Another plus is Topcash!! Thanks to this fantastic site I insured my mums contens for £47.....and got £30 cashback for her!! So that is a years contents insurance, with accidental damage, for £17!! AMAZING!! We also subscribed to Talk Talk for broadband/phone etc and got £24 cashback! If we'd did it a week or so ago it would have been £60 but hey ho!! Hubby recons we'll save £300 over the 18 month contract?? That is his department........I know nothing about computers/broadband etc!! He looks after the utilities (gas/electric/phone).....and I see to all the rest! It's waaaay too complicted for me!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend! :):)

  • Hi Button, thats great going on the grocery front :j:j, hubby does most of the eating here too...seems like he is constantly grazing:rotfl::rotfl:. A new laptop can be considered an essential purpose..........i would be suffering serious withdrawl symptoms without mine:D. Great news on the cashback too. Welldone:T

Just to add.........has anyone experienced a down side to money saving????............

I have and it is PUTTING ON WEIGHT!!:eek::eek:

I am now of the mindset.....well, it's in the cupboard so let's not waste it!!! And, I have to clear my plate so again, lets not waste anything!!!

I have no willpower when it comes to food!!!!!:o:o:o

Well, I batch cook and I'll think ok I'll cook double lots of spuds and onions half to go in this and I can save half for tomorrow and make it into say bubble and squeak - but MrOP thinks mmm yummmy I can manage to eat all of that. He gave up grazing on biscuits though which is saving a bit weekly!

well done with your food budget, I'm still trying to cut mine down but with nappies etc it's still a lot!
  • I'm somewhat a forgetful person and often throw food into the freezer which I leave in there for years. I've eaten bread, frozen cooked roast beef, fishcakes, chicken, ready meals, frozen vegm ice cream, bread and cranberry sauce bought for Xmas 3 years previously - and I'm still alive.

The only two items which seemed to taste slightly odd were the bread and cooked roast beef, but everything else tasted normal.

I too eat old food from the freezer (pastry is my favourite ;)) & I'm still here.

But, having just cleaned out my freezer, I wondered what your escaped foods rattling about loose were? Mine used to be peas but now it seems to be broad beans (unless the peas have adapted to the cold & started to grow ). Also random part packs of sausages - I buy fresh, we have Sat & Sun, I chuck remnants in the freezer then buy more. Last time I had 10 part packs & 5 full :o

As a mortgage-just-started newbie (last week), my fridge freezer is currently almost totally empty, and certainly has nothing rattling about loose :j

Having spent all weekend moving, unpacking and putting up flat pack furniture, I haven't had the energy to go food shopping, and am living on take-aways.

It's quite nice. I'll savour the clean freezer compartment for a while, I think, before filling it with junk that'll still be there in 5 years time :D
