D&A vs Specsaver problem

Last year my DH, brother and aunt all had tests at different opticians but bought glasses at glassesdirect online. Other online companies are available. All glasses were much cheaper, and great. DH had to send a pair back as the lenses had been put in wrong but we had them back within the same week.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I have had an eye test from a firm that was only interested in selling me very expensive glasses. However, I took my prescription and went elsewhere. Since then I've had annual eye tests because I'm diabetic. My optometrist spotted glaucoma 12 months after my previous test. It took the local eye hospital a further 2 years to confirm the diagnosis. OK, I don't pay for my eye tests, but do you really believe this Government would pay for them 2-yearly (annually in my case) if they weren't necessary?0

I would like to say the service I have had from my local Specsavers , I picked up my latest pair only last week, has been wonderful.0

Sometimes the only way to find out if they good or bad is how they respond to a problem.
Im pretty sure the lady that checked the glasses in the machine knew it was wrong, as she stated i had an cyl change, which i hadnt. All she had to do was say its wrong i will redo it, without a quibble, instead of sending me off to try them for a week as the eyes need to adjust to this change!0 -

I dont have that option. To my knowledge no online company will make my prescription. Hence i was so happy when i saw Asda advert, one price for any prescription. (except mines). They will go all the way up to 20 sph but only 5 cyl. Is it harder or more expensive to make the cyl???0 -
Why do opticions insist that a script older than two years is void? .
the same way as a pharmacy would not honor a 2 year old script or a dr would not keep prescribing daily medication indefinatly without medical review! they are all healthcare professionals - bound by codes of practice!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I doubt very much if someone has contracted glaucoma as a result of not having their eyes tested every two years. Maybe after eight years but not two years.
the nhs guidelines are that anyone over 40 with a direct relative (parent, sibling, child) with glaucoma should be seen every 12 months as they may have a genetic predisposition to developing the disease - sadly, sometimes 12 months is to long.
also over 70's are advised to have an eye test every 12 months, as they are at an increased risk of age related eye/sight problems.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -

This is what I posted earlier today in another thread

I have over the last month had a similar problem with Specsavers.
Three eye tests . one remake of lens and a lot of sympathy.
And the dreadful thing , it was not the fault of the glasses/
Have been wearing the same glasses wrongly ( the glasses have been crooked,
most likely knocked sometime in the distance past ) This is after wearing glasses for over 45 years.
So when i put on new glasses correctly. saw a terrible 'prism' effect.
But did as I was told . and now 48 hours later am delighted with the new glasses
So to hi jack this thread . very happy with Specsavers.0 -

Your prescription is very rare, there are so few people with such a high cyl that there are few lens companies that actually manufacture your lenses, and those that do can charge companies what they like for them.
Asda use Hoya as there lens supplier. They have negotiated a fantastic deal whereby they get the lenses cheaper for only using Hoya i.e. mass purchasing. The thing with Asda is their offer is a loss leader, they make little or no money from there Opticians.
E.g. those people with a high prescription who need a 1.74 plastic or 1.9 glass lenses get them for £50 so long as there inside the prescription range, and can be ordered from Hoya, but it will cost Asda a hell of a lot more than this for the lenses and frames. However their thought is, when you go for a test, you will shop, maybe you will bring a friend back to help you choose, again you will shop. Then you come back to pick them up, again you will shop. That's where they are making there money.
Unfortunately for you they have to draw the line somewhere and say those lenses to buy in from another company other than Hoya are just too expensive and therefore would need to charge you more, thus complicating their offer. So instead they choose to not supply your prescription, so you go away unhappy but not before doing a shop!:)0 -
The latest....
I went to D&A today to check on the progress and the glasses still not done, infact not even ordered!!!
From what i can tell, there was a dispute about the cost, only they didnt contact me. The manager wanted to charge me for one of the lenses, the sales assistant wasnt authorise to say that they would do both at no charge, as they scratched one. I thought they come in pairs?
For waiting these extra two weeks as a gesture of goodwill they wont charge for the other lens afterall....
I wonder how long it will take them, and whether they come back ok?0
