D&A vs Specsaver problem

In short, i went to D&A for a test and brought from Specsavers, the glasses is wrong! I knew right away. The GOOD eye, i can only see through from the top half, the bottom half is blurred. The lady i spoke too gave me a list of excuses and is ultimately blaming D&A prescription.
What can cause a lens to be half blurred? These are single vision lens.
What are my rights to a refund? Both lenses are wrong and frames deformed (see below) and way too heavy.
What if my prescription is wrong, who pays for the correct lenses? These are 1.67 thin no one will make any thinner for me. Isn’t there a consequence to givin out wrong prescriptions?
In the process of trying to fix the problem, this lady told a man to adjust the frame. He’s made the bridges come out and he cutted away the metal handles and melted the plastic. The glasses handles are now deformed, with melted plastic in the inside of the frame!
It’s now really uncomfortable, digs in the nose and ears. These glasses are 3 times the weight of the ones i have now. I originally had chosen a titanium one, which the sales assistant said i couldn’t have as its semi frameless. The ones im wearing are semi frameless! I asked her to read the numbers in my glasses and she said there weren’t any! ( I later find out there is) These are the figures that say how long the bridge and lens and length of arm, so i could pick the same dimensions.
More importantly Vision is really crap...The optical centre is now raised and it was measured to be at the top of the frame. I am also confident the PD is wrong. as the original lady took 3 measurements all different and she decided to take the middle. I have a lazy eye that’s not of equal distance to the nose as the other eye. This was not taken into account so the BAD eye lens is wrong too.
I have a very strong prescription, i would of brought at D&A, but they've increased their cost its now at least £125 for one eye, my last glasses made with them took 8 weeks and when they came back there weren’t perfect, vision slightly off. I have 10 years worth of presciption, they dont vary by much either up or down by a bit. axis roughly same.
I orginally went to Asda as i read that thread, and saw on website "one complete price for single vision lenses "whatever your prescription" so not true, i spent ages picking out 2 frames and waited over 20 minutes to be seen, and then i filled out all the forms only for the computer to crash! The computer crashed because it couldn’t take my prescription. Apparently they can only make up to 5, and I’m a 7.50 cyl. (the second figure, if i had help from the NHS i would be a voucher D, as in max help)
I have also been to optical express for a laser consultation, it lasted one and half hours only to be told NO they would offer implants at 6k. I knew they can’t give me perfect vision, i would have been happy to be at the level where i can buy cheap glasses. She did an eye test and wouldn’t give me the prescription, her only comment was she would have prescribe it less. D&A said it only went up by a bit! I had a look back at old pres. its jumped by 2 bits.
Any advice? I haven’t managed to go to D&A as the weather not exactly helped!!!!! It shouldn’t be such a trauma just to get a pair of glasses. Thanks for reading.

As you didn't get your eyes tested at Specsavers, then I think you'll have to get an independent person to test the glasses and show that they are not made to the prescription.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks for your reply. The woman at specsavers checked the glasses and said they were made to prescription. But as the lens is wrong, she blaming the written prescription.
Most people overprescriped see blur all over not just the bottom half.
I think its more likely that they've used material with a fault in it, how can i prove that?0 -
It's not the prescription it's the eye measurements. Some of the chain opticians are partic bad at measuring the distances between nose and pupil focus point etc, mainly because this bit is done by muppet sales assistants and not the opthamologists.
Also the labs in store frequently use poorly qualified staff that don't ensure that the focal points etc are acutally where then need to specifically be for each individual and each unique frame.
I would go to a local indendent optician, and pay for a bit of their time to double check both the eye test and the the frames/lens set up.
I have worn glasses for decades and every single problem that I have ever had with a pair of glasses is exactly as above. I now will avoid the chains for glasses.0 -
And phone specsavers Head Office tomorrow to lodge a complaint and request a full refund for the frames, because muppet 1 and muppet 2 were totally out of order in what they did to those frames, which are now unusable, regardless of the lenses inside them.0

so you can see through the top half of the lens but not the bottom - therefore the problem could be with the centration of the lens. with a prescription like yours the centers are not only set with the pd but a vertical measurement is often taken so the centre of the lens matches where the pupil sits both horizontally and vertically.. good practice is to mark up the centres on the exsisting glasses and match the vertical measurements to the exsisting lenses (as well as the pd).... so often i see high prescriptions with the hights in the centre of the lens vertically and if that is the case we leave them like that unless the customer is experienceing problems that could be liked to this - if it aint broke! if the hights have been measured we do this and have glasses made up - go back to specsavers and get them to compare measurements with your previous pair. if you get no joy D&A will check glasses over before going further get them to check the prescription in your new pair and the centres in both pairs - they should contact specsavers if they find a problem with the make up of the glasses and get a remake - if there are no problems with the make up of the glasses they should retest and if they find a difference in the prescription D&A is responsable for making up lenses.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -

I think Specsavers doesnt have a Head Office, they are franchises and its up to the store director. They do have a statement, which is
Customer satisfation. We want you to be completely happy with your purchase at Specsavers Opticians. If you have any concerns within six months of the date of your purchase we will put it right. No quibble, no fuss.

When i first complain, the lady checked the PD and said she agreed with the first person, but niether took into account the lazy eye. She was very dismissive and said that wouldnt cause the problem that i had. She also said they were marked for height, was on the notes, she didnt actually check the glasses. (The very first lady, used a ruler, she didnt mark the glasses) The height is now wrong because they've adjusted the frames to go upwards. Her last words were try them for a week and then if you still have problems go to D&A.
Im gonna try and go tomorrow as the weather might improve and they open late.0 -

Thanks for looking, i found another thread somewhere where people wrote to that address and all they did was forward it along to the store.
Today i managed to go to D&A, hooray! It wasnt as traumatic as i thought it would be, the sales staff were great about it. They took the glasses away to inspect, and re-scheduled an eye test for saturday.
I should mention, whilst they were inspecting the glasses the lens fell out, (that just goes to show how bad specsavers must have fitted it) its now scratched and D&A says they will replace the lens. D&A also gonna let my buy a new pair of frames from them too when i showed them what they did to those frames!
What ive learnt is, get an eye test at the same place that you buy from, or your end up being piggy in the middle. Also understand return policies beforehand.
I dont want anything to do with specsavers, ive never seen this level of incompetence, i just need to go get the cost of the glasses back and since they deformed it, it shouldnt be a problem should it.
Will let you know how i get on.....as its nice to have an ending.0 -
Im in shock....
I had the eye re-test at D&A and the test was fine. It turns out the lens were not made to prescription. (she lied to me) It was off by 2 bits of cyl, hence the major distortion.
I went back to specsavers and the muppet 2 turned out to be the manager! She wouldnt even talk to me today, when i came back with my letter from D&A spelling out what was wrong.
This manager send me away with bad glasses and told me to wear them for a week!!!! She knew they were wrong and tried to blame D&A. This cannot be right. I only lasted 2 days and had to take pain tablets as i was getting eye strain and headaches. It was awful.
To anyone reading, please avoid birmingham central Specsavers especially if you have complicated prescriptions.
Im hoping D&A glasses come back fine, i expect it'd be 2-4weeks. Fingers crossed.0
