your micra was made by nissan who are half owned by renault, which means its not anywhere near as good as the micras that were actually made by nissan when nissan were just nissan.

nissan took all the good things about the old micra and binned them, they kept the bad stuff and added some french electrics and some other equally rubbish french stuff and made a car that is the shadow of its former self.

the old micra was bomb proof as it was simple in every way, the new one is far from it.

from reading on here regularly they seem to have a problem with the timing chain,it becomes loose, engine warning light comes on ecu goes into limp mode and it will cost you best part of £800 in parts alone (possibly the same in labour) to put it right.

i don't mean to scare you but theres no point in saying its a great car just because the ones they made previously were great.
You beat me to it! The old micras are superb. Then Renault started interfering. The new one is built on the same platform as the clio I believe.

  • This guy I work with had an old Ford Fiesta that managed 15 years and an intergalactic 350,000 miles before he got rid of it. It did go a bit baggy though - not so much of a car but more like a collection of car parts driving in close formation along the road.

It just goes to show you can keep a car going for a very long time if you are prepared to maintain it properly.

You should be doing this anyway.

Your car is barely being used and hence should be on a low usage interval plan now. This is especially for the oils etc.

yes, i asked my mechanic about this (car back home now, MOT and service complete) but he seemed to think 6 monthly was unnecessary, said something about synthetic oil

definately a problem with the electrics at the moment though which means i may have to take to the main dealer. the headlights should turn off when the drivers door is opened and now they dont. this all started monday. im having to turn the lights off manually

the stresses and strains of everyday life ehh? :rotfl:

if they have had the battery disconnected or if its been flat for any legth of time it may need the parameter reset so that your lights go off when the door is opened, and any other special needs settings you have.
