battery fooked on both car and probably key fob
screwdriver to the key fob find whichever odd pencil battery it is and replace accordingly
mechanically micras are bombproof, i had a 1984 model some years back, lasted nearly 20 years ill the rust hit and the very early models were hard to get panels forthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

question about the key fob thing, a while back my partner had a flat battery on the key fob of his old car. i did a bit of research and we took it to a little auto shop and found out that replacing the battery affected the programming of the key to the car. we paid £150 to get a new key from the dealer and then a few months later the car blew up!!
so, am a bit wary of the changing battery thing. his old car was a renault, maybe these were different to nissans, im not sure, what do you think?0 -
I used to drive a 10 year old Micra for a short while which had nearly 110K miles on the clock when I sold it. It's still in use according to the Tax Disc website.0

How long is a piece of string?
In answer to the OP no your micra wont last 10 years, my crystal balls is saying more like 7 years, 41 days, 6 hours and 5 mins, not sure if thats from today or the day it was manufactured though, sorry I can't be any more clear.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
thanks, reassuring, as its the mileage i should be thinking about rather than the years. if i go back to work full time in march/april as i plan, whilst i wont be doing the 20k a year mileage i used to, its still likely to be about 12-15k a year. assuming this continues for the next 5 years, that makes another 60k on top of the current 46, so if your example is anything to go by, it should be ok.
i remember last year, listening to paul ross on the radio. he said that he had just bought a bargin for the family and really old volvo estate with 110k on the clock! he said it was running fine and expected it to go on for some time0 -
Like anything car if you maintain it well and regular there is no reason why it wont go on and on. I had a toyota that had over 300k on the clock drove sweet as nut and never missed a beat but its service history was impecable and had always been well maintained.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

your micra was made by nissan who are half owned by renault, which means its not anywhere near as good as the micras that were actually made by nissan when nissan were just nissan.
nissan took all the good things about the old micra and binned them, they kept the bad stuff and added some french electrics and some other equally rubbish french stuff and made a car that is the shadow of its former self.
the old micra was bomb proof as it was simple in every way, the new one is far from it.
from reading on here regularly they seem to have a problem with the timing chain,it becomes loose, engine warning light comes on ecu goes into limp mode and it will cost you best part of £800 in parts alone (possibly the same in labour) to put it right.
i don't mean to scare you but theres no point in saying its a great car just because the ones they made previously were great....work permit granted!0 -
I also have a Nissan Micra 54 plate (dci) with 80k, am very pleased with it. However, it has had to be towed to the garage today as the alternator went on it yesterday - this could also be a feasible explanation with yours as well I should imagine (with the symptoms you are describing) Anyone more knowledgeable, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.0

Every car has its problems, visit honestjohn.co.uk and view the carbycar breakdown lists, you wont find a single car that doesn't have faults or hasn't had recalls at some point.
Unfortunelty 2 people can have exactly the same car, spec, age, mileage, SH, yet one car can be constantly breaking down and the other never have a fault. You just can never tell.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

im well aware of that. im just saying the new nissan micra can not be compared to the micras of old as its totally different. the reliability of the older nissans were amazing, bluebirds, micras, stanzas, cherys. they were al great, even the early primeras were great but after renault got involved it all went a bit wrong. but folk still buy them based on the reliability of the older ones....work permit granted!0
